Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun used a fire extinguisher to put out the Hanukkah menorah in the Sejm! Recordings have been made available online. Then the Confederation politician appeared on the Sejm stage. After this event, the Marshal of the Sejm excluded him from the session.
What have you done?! Shame!
– journalists shouted at Braun.
Those who participate in acts of satanic worship should be ashamed
– replied the Southern MP.
A ceremony was held in the Sejm in honor of the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. The incident left the corridors of the Sejm covered in powder from the fire extinguisher used by MP Braun. The holiday of Hanukkah commemorates the history recorded in I and II Maccabees, which tells of the war of liberation in 164 B.C.
Switching on the lights is one of the most important activities of Hanukkah. On the first evening after sunset, the host of the house lights the main candle and lights it first. On the second day he lights the main candle again, the first candle, the second candle, etc. The candles are lit from the left.
The procedure has been interrupted!
The Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, decided to exclude Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun from participating in the Sejm session because he prevented the implementation of the proceedings. The procedure was interrupted.
Based on article. 175(5) decides to exclude you from the Sejm session. In accordance with the internal regulations of the Sejm, we request that you leave the meeting room
– Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia asked Braun.
Hołownia announced that a request to the Public Prosecution Service will be submitted to MP Grzegorz Braun in connection with his disruption of a religious rite in the buildings of the Sejm Chancellery.
Earlier, MP Grzegorz Braun used a powder fire extinguisher to extinguish Hanukkah candles lit in the Sejm. Then he appeared on the parliamentary stage.
“‘Zero tolerance for anti-Semitic deviations in the Polish parliament’
I have decided that, in accordance with Article 22b of the Rules of Order of the Sejm, Mr Braun is considered to have grossly disturbed the peace or order in the area administered by the Chancellery of the Sejm. This means that the Sejm Presidium will probably meet today to decide on the financial sanction for Mr Braun.
– Hołownia told journalists.
He expressed “his deepest regret for what happened.”
This shouldn’t happen. I would also like to make it clear that based on the monitoring data and the precise classification of Mr. Braun’s act, an application against him will be filed with the Public Prosecution Service, most likely under the paragraph on disrupting a religious rite.
– informed the marshal.
Such an act of rudeness, aggression and stupidity has not happened here for a long time and will never happen again. I would like to say again how sorry I am (…). Zero tolerance for anti-Semitic deviations in the Polish parliament
– he said.
When he started to explain himself and again accused me of some madness, I simply excluded him from the meeting, there is nothing to talk about.
– added.
Zembaczyński (KO) tabled a motion to adjourn the meeting
During questions to Donald Tusk after his presentation, KO MP Witold Zembaczyński made a motion to interrupt the session.
An incredible event has just occurred. A religious ceremony was interrupted. This is not acceptable. MP Braun committed a shameful act by attacking religious ceremonies on Polish territory, where the Holocaust took place.
– he said.
I move to pause the session. Mr Braun’s appeal to the Sejm Presidium to be excluded from the proceedings. (…) There is no place for anti-Semitic acts
– added.
An attack occurred in which Hanukkah candles were extinguished with a fire extinguisher. This is a direct attack on a religious act and such behavior will not be tolerated in this house.
– he concluded.
Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun spoke during a correction.
There can be no place for acts of racist, tribal, wild worship on the grounds of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. As I understand it, ignorance speaks for those gathered here. You are not glossing over the contents of this act innocently called “Hanukkah.”
– he explained.
I am being blamed for racist motives here, while I am actually restoring a state of normalcy and balance by putting an end to acts of satanic, racist triumphalism, because that is the message of this holiday season.
– he said.
I challenge you to a theological dispute. I like to share information
– he concluded.
A break was ordered
After MP Grzegorz Braun extinguished the Hanukkah menorah, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak said, among others: At the request of MP Grzegorz Puda, he ordered a break in the session. The pause will last until the Sejm Presidium meets and further decisions are announced.
This situation would certainly require unity of the entire parliamentary group. I think that now that we are here, not only on the right, but also on other political sides, we disagree with what happened
– said PiS MP Grzegorz Puda.
Puda has submitted a request for a break on behalf of the PiS club.
I think this will allow us to calm down in this situation
– said Puda.
The Deputy Chairman of the Sejm, Krzysztof Bosak, announced a pause until the Presidium of the Sejm meets and further decisions of the Presidium and the Chairman of the Sejm are taken.
