The British Ministry of Defense described the absence of thousands of UAVs in its annual report on military equipment inventory results as an “administrative error”. This was reported in the British publication Finance Times referring to the department.

“The (Department of Defense – editor’s note) blamed the exclusion of thousands of unmanned aerial vehicles from its annual update of its inventory on an ‘administrative error,’” the publication said.

As the publication highlights, the UK Ministry of Defense reports that they have actually invested “significant funds” in the development of UAVs over the past few years and “have thousands of state-of-the-art aircraft.”

In the documents of the British Ministry of Defense, it was previously stated that there were 55 UAVs as of April 1, 2023, which is 230 fewer than in 2022.

According to the publication, the 2023 publication of UK armed forces equipment statistics lists the two largest types of drones operated by the air force and army – these are 10 Reaper reconnaissance UAVs and 45 Watchmen surveillance systems.

The Financial Times also notes that the opposition Labor Party says the omission is an example of the Conservative government’s failings since coming to power in 2010.
