Accounts are needed, the truth is due to the Poles, but I do not want us in the Sejm to have to deal only with investigative committees – said Marshal Szymon Hołownia on Wednesday during a press conference in the Sejm. He stated that he did not intend to table further resolutions on the establishment of commissions of inquiry in the near future.
When asked whether he expects the Sejm – in addition to the three – to appoint more investigative committees: for the so-called envelope elections, Pegasus and the so-called visa scandal – Marshal Hołownia replied that “there are so many ideas for committees that even the Marshal of the Sejm do not know.”
I heard about the Confederation’s ideas for three more commissions of inquiry, but as I said to the Confederation MPs yesterday: “You have already discussed it at the press conference and in the media, but you have not yet come to me.”
– and added that none of the bills had been submitted to the Sejm.
Marshal Hołownia believed that investigative committees “cannot clog the entire legislative process.”
Accounts are needed, Poles deserve the truth, but I do not want us in the Sejm to deal only with investigative committees
– he emphasized.
He explained that the decision to establish three commissions of inquiry now stems from pragmatism.
That is why, even now that there are not so many draft laws, we have held the first readings of three commissions of inquiry that we have been talking about for a long time, and we will continue with that.
– he said.
As he said, he was not afraid of the work of the investigative committees.
I wonder what will happen at the stage of appointing candidates to these committees, because they may be opposed to each other. You may need to talk to representatives of parliamentary groups about how to make this process quick and efficient
– he pointed.
Hołownia stated that he does not intend to submit further resolutions on the establishment of investigative committees in the near future.
The most important thing about commissions of inquiry is inevitability. Not their numbers, not their size, which keeps them from becoming a media show, but their inevitability
– declared the Chairman of the Sejm.
We want these commissions to have a limited scope of their activities, to settle cases within a few months, to go to the State Tribunal and the Public Prosecution Service and, above all, to provide information to Poland. And we take up another matter which has outraged us and which has not been explained; and further. Small steps, but effective, inevitable and absolute
– Hołownia announced.
When asked when the first of the three committees would start, he said he wanted it to happen before the end of the year.
It will probably be the envelope elections committee
– he inquired.
On Tuesday, the Sejm held the first reading of three resolutions, written by KO, on the creation of investigative committees: for the so-called envelope elections, Pegasus and the so-called visa scandal. They were forwarded to further work in committees.
The Marshal’s taunts
Appointment of the so-called commission I read Lex Tusk mainly as a self-assessment of the Law and Justice team, which helplessly admitted that it was unable to guarantee Poland’s security against Russian influence, Szymon Hołownia, Marshal of the Sejm, said on Wednesday .
On Wednesday, in the evening block, the Sejm will consider the dismissal of members of the State Commission for investigating Russian influence on the internal security of the Republic of Poland in the period 2007-2022. In accordance with the law establishing the commission, its members are appointed and dismissed by the Sejm.
At a press conference, the Marshal of the Sejm was asked what Donald Tusk could be afraid of if he wanted to liquidate the commission investigating Russian influence so quickly.
I must have missed something because I have never heard of the idea of abolishing the commission
– Hołownia replied.
When the journalist clarified that it was about “the removal of members of the commission” and “there are voices in the opposition to completely liquidate the commission,” the marshal pointed out that “the removal of members is not the liquidation of the commission .”
You are asking me about what is on the agenda of the Sejm today, not about the votes that appear. As you know, you hear a lot of voices in this building when you walk through the hallways. Members of the Lex Tusk Commission, in my opinion, and not only mine, hence this conclusion, receive state money, very large sums of money, while working at our expense in luxurious offices, without doing any work that can be considered of crucial importance are considered for the Polish countries
– said Hołownia.
He added that the appointment process of this committee itself had been questioned many times.
If Poland was ruled by Law and Justice for eight years and had full control over all secret services, what does the country not know about the Russian influence that was supposed to take place in Poland?
– asked the chairman of the Sejm.
Is Mr. Cenckiewicz (chairman of the committee investigating Russian influence) better than the Military Counterintelligence Service, the Intelligence Service and the Homeland Security Service? Are these services so weak that you now have to call on Mr Cenckiewicz for help and pay him several thousand to twenty thousand zlotys, because I do not know how much the chairman ultimately receives for helping the officers? What testimony does this give us on the public stage, including the international one, about the efficiency of our state security apparatus?
– asked Hołownia.
As he noted, “If the services have done nothing on this issue for eight years, neither will a group of historians.”
And this problem must be solved today. However, we must also restore services as quickly as possible so that the Sejm does not have to defend their activities with the help of ad hoc committees, because I am appointing this so-called committee. Lex Tusk, is read primarily as a self-assessment of the Law and Justice team, which helplessly admitted that it is unable to guarantee Poland’s security against Russian influence, and therefore must appeal to Mr Cenckiewicz and his 8 or 9 colleagues for help
– said Hołownia.
On August 31, during its last session, the Sejm of the 9th term appointed 9 members of the commission to investigate Russian influence on the internal security of the Republic of Poland in the years 2007-2022. They were all nominated by PiS, the opposition presented no candidates and did not participate in the vote.
Members of the committee were appointed: Director of the Military Historical Bureau, Sławomir Cenckiewicz, Advisor to the President, Prof. Andrzej Zybertowicz, Chairman of the Security and Defense Council of the President of the Republic of Poland, Prof. Przemysław Żurawski vel Grajewski and Łukasz Ciegotura, Michał Wojnowski, Józef Brynkus, Marek Szymaniak, Arkadiusz Puławski and Andrzej Kowalski.
