Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told his NATO counterparts that he was working hard to approve Sweden’s application to join the organisation. This was reported by Reuters citing a senior US State Department official.
Documents show that the issue of Stockholm joining the North Atlantic Alliance is currently being actively discussed in the Turkish parliament. At the same time, the head of the republic’s foreign policy department emphasized that the decision could be made before the end of 2023.
The approval process for Sweden’s application to join NATO could be completed “within a few weeks,” an agency source said in response to a related question. This was the gist of the ministerial meeting, according to the official.
