Krzysztof Brejza (KO), Tomasz Trela (Left Wing), Krzysztof Śmiszek (Left Wing) nominated by party colleagues as candidates for investigative committees. However, PO Secretary General Marcin Kierwiński noted that many MPs were on the trail of the PiS government’s deception. They are natural candidates, he said.
They want to set up three investigative committees
At its next session, the Sejm will discuss three draft resolutions submitted by the KO regarding the creation of three investigative committees: for the so-called envelope elections, for the so-called visa scandal and to investigate the legality, regularity and purposefulness of operational and reconnaissance activities undertaken, among other things, use of Pegasus software in the period from November 16, 2015 to November 20, 2023.
Joński and Szczerba as KO “researchers”?
While the clubs have not yet put forward any official candidates for committee members, some MPs have their own picks. The head of the PO Club, Marcin Kierwiński, believes that there are many parliamentarians in the tenth-term Sejm who could sit on investigative committees.
Many very competent MPs have exposed the PiS government’s fraud in recent years. These were people who conducted parliamentary inspections and produced documents that exposed the hypocrisy and theft of this government. I think they are natural candidates
– he declared.
During the previous term of the Sejm, the most famous parliamentary inspections among PO MPs were carried out by Dariusz Joński and Michał Szczerba.
However, Kierwiński did not announce whether they would be his party’s candidates for members of the investigative committees. However, he stressed that the committee should include MPs who “have been following PiS scandals for the past eight years and have achieved successes in this area.”
I think they will be great researchers and ask good questions of discredited PiS politicians
– he assessed.
When asked whether the committee investigating Pegasus abuse would also include KO MP Krzysztof Brejza, who, according to the findings of the Citizen Lab think tank, would be one of the people monitored with the system, the KO replied MP:
No decisions have been made yet, but Krzysztof Brejza is certainly a great person to answer for the pathologies of the PiS government.
Will Brejza take care of Pegasus?
Marek Biernacki (PSL), former head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration and vice-chairman of the parliamentary committee on secret services, spoke in a similar tone in an interview with PAP, stating that his club had already selected candidates for members of the secret Services. Commission.
We will of course inform you about this in a timely manner. I can reveal that it definitely won’t be me
– he said.
According to him, the committee that investigates abuses of the Pegasus system should include people who are familiar with the functioning of the services. He also indicated which person he would see in this place.
I am convinced that Krzysztof Brejza will be on this committee. He is a person who is very concerned with this topic, so he will investigate the matter with determination. On the other hand, he is a person with a lot of knowledge
– emphasized Biernacki.
The left-wing MP is betting on Śmiszek
Andrzej Szejna (left) recalled that “Poles expect one very important election promise to be fulfilled: holding PiS accountable.” He emphasized that the final outcome of the commission’s work should be “ready indictments for the prosecution and the courts.”
The members of the committee must be lawyers, because we cannot make mistakes in the preparation phase
– he pointed.
I believe that Mr Krzysztof Śmiszek (left) is a great lawyer and he could be on the investigative committee. He has the strength of character to bring to justice those who committed crimes under PiS rule
– said Szejna.
When asked whether in his opinion Krzysztof Brejza should be a member of the committee investigating abuse of the Pegasus system, Szejna replied that he would personally advise him against this.
I don’t want to disrupt the coalition, but I would advise against it for Mr Brejza. I say this as a lawyer: a judge usually disqualifies himself when the case concerns himself
– he explained.
PAP also asked the head of the left-wing club, Krzysztof Gawkowski, about his type of candidates. The politician admitted that one of the members of his party’s committee would be MP Tomasz Trela .
The current opposition wants to attack PiS
On Wednesday evening, the press service of the Civic Coalition announced that the KO Club had submitted draft resolutions to the Sejm on the creation of investigative committees regarding the so-called visa scandal, Pegasus and the so-called envelope elections. The announcement of their appointment was made on Tuesday by the leader of the Civic Platform, Donald Tusk.
The first draft resolution submitted by the KO club concerns “the appointment of a commission of inquiry to investigate the legality, regularity and purposefulness of actions, as well as the prevention of abuses, negligence and omissions in the legalization of the stay of foreigners in the territory of the Republic of Poland in the period from January 1, 2019 to November 20, 2023
Commission of Inquiry into the So-called Envelope Elections aims to investigate the legality, correctness and purposefulness of the actions taken in preparation and implementation of the 2020 elections for the President of the Republic of Poland in the form of postal voting. The draft resolution states that the committee will in particular investigate the actions of the then members of the Council of Ministers, including Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin and persons subordinate to them. It will also be examined how instructions from government members have been implemented in this regard, in particular by the Polish Post and the Polish Security Printing House.
A draft resolution was also tabled on the appointment of an “Inquiry Commission to investigate the legality, regularity and purposefulness of operational and reconnaissance activities undertaken, among others: with the use of Pegasus software by members of the Council of Ministers, secret services, police, tax audit and customs and budgetary control authorities in the period from November 16, 2015 to November 20, 2023.”
