The former special services coordinator Mariusz Kamiński cannot plausibly sit on the Pegasus investigative committee, said Krzysztof Gawkowski, who leads the left-wing club, during an interview with PAP. On Tuesday the legislative committee is set to discuss three draft resolutions from KO aimed at creating investigative committees, including ones on envelope elections, Pegasus, and the visa affair. These bills were forwarded to the committee after their first reading in the Sejm last week.
Gawkowski blasts Kamiński
Krzysztof Gawkowski stated in a conversation with PAP that the first investigative committees could begin without delay. He stressed that certain MPs should not be questioned by these committees and should be excluded if there is any reason to doubt their involvement. He underscored the implausibility of having Mr. Mariusz Kamiński, the head of the services coordination, serve on the Pegasus Commission, suggesting it would be inappropriate for the person who oversees intelligence and counterintelligence to be the one being investigated by such a body.
– he emphasized, making clear the position of the left-wing MP.
PiS calls for proportional representation
The head of the PiS parliamentary club, Mariusz Błaszczak, urged that his group receive proportional representation on any investigative committees. He pointed out that with eleven committee members there should be five from PiS. PiS MP Przemysław Czarnek added that his party has enough volunteers ready to serve and that he himself would be interested in joining the envelope elections committee.
Commissions of Inquiry
Last week the Sejm debated a draft resolution to establish an investigative committee to examine the legality and propriety of measures taken during the 2020 presidential elections, especially the postal voting process. Originally the voting method was chosen due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the election itself was conducted in the traditional manner.
The Sejm also considered a proposal to set up an investigative panel to probe the use of Pegasus software by members of the Council of Ministers, the special services, the police, and tax and customs authorities from November 16, 2015 to November 20, 2023. In addition, lawmakers discussed a plan to form a committee to scrutinize the actions taken, and the prevention of abuses, negligence, and omissions related to the legal residence of foreigners within Poland from January 1, 2019 to November 20, 2023.
