“This will undoubtedly be a policy of great aggression against the President. (…) It is worth remembering that under Donald Tusk the discussions on the anti-missile shield broke down. In addition, the army and military budget were cut. Security matters will therefore be in the hands of people who have shown that they simply do not understand,” says Dr. Jan Parys, former head of the Ministry of National Defense, in an interview with wPolityce.pl.

wPolityce.pl: What foreign policy can we expect from the possible future government of Donald Tusk?
Dr. Jan Parys: I assume that the government of Donald Tusk will pursue the same policies as eight years ago. Highly critical of relations with the US, aggressive towards the President of the Republic of Poland and based on imitation of German policy.
All the more so because we already have certain – albeit unofficial – announcements of “great returns”, for example Radosław Sikorski to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It’s true, yes. If this idea becomes reality, it does not bode well for us. We would then get confirmation that Donald Tusk wants Mr. Sikorski to pursue a war policy against the president because that is his specialty.
Of course, we do not yet know how the situation at the front will develop, but what could the new government’s policy towards Ukraine look like? At least declaratively, the positions of PiS, the Civic Coalition and most parties in the Polish parliament are the same or similar. And in practice – for example, if Germany is in a hurry to get back to normal work?
This will be an exact, blind imitation of what the government in Berlin is doing. It won’t be anything original.
It seems that there are many question marks regarding Poland’s sovereignty and issues such as changes to the EU treaties, and perhaps also the survival of the Polish zloty. President Andrzej Duda declares in an interview for “Sieci” and wPolityce.pl that he does not agree to put the opposition to these types of changes on an equal footing with Polexit. “However, we want a Community that respects the sovereignty of the Member States. The one we entered. And we must fight for such a Union in its forum. In the interests of Poland and Europe,” he emphasized.
As we know, if a new government is formed and becomes Prime Minister, Donald Tusk will not need the consent of the President in the European Council and will agree to the so-called centralization of the Union and transfer of power from the Member States to the head office in Brussels. Later, however, the matter will go to the national parliament, where the ruling coalition led by Donald Tusk has a majority, so they can vote on it.
However, I fear that they will settle the matter with the president by waiting ten months for the elections to take place. They hope that they will have their own president and that they can then handle everything without any problems.
For the time being, we are putting some pressure on the government of Donald Tusk to take the oath as soon as possible, and recently there have even been threats: the State Tribunal or dismissal from office through a referendum, where many lawyers, including those who Don’t support PiS, consider a bizarre idea.
These threats have no rational basis. There is no reason or legal possibility to shorten the president’s term or bring him before the State Tribunal.
So if Radosław Sikorski actually takes over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we can expect, probably at least until the end of President Duda’s term, a policy similar to the one implemented recently. President Lech Kaczynski? It seems that Sikorski was in some sense the ‘face’ of this confrontational administration policy towards the president?
This will undoubtedly be a policy of great aggression against the President. Moreover, it is worth remembering that it was under Donald Tusk that the talks on the anti-missile shield broke down. In addition, the army and military budget were cut.
Safety issues will therefore be in the hands of people who have shown that they simply do not understand them.
Moreover, already during the campaign we received quite disturbing announcements, either from PO or from Third Way, regarding, for example, the “verification” of some agreements, contracts and orders for Western weapons from the time of PiS rule.
This is proof that those who say this are unable to draw conclusions from the international situation. For example, from the interview that Major Michał Fiszer gave to Gazeta.pl today, it becomes clear that Europe must prepare to repel Russian aggression. If Agora writes about this, perhaps the gentlemen of the Civic Platform will sober up and also see the need to build a strong army and increase military potential.
Thank you very much for the interview.
