Implementation of the total opposition’s plan to take power at all costs – this is how the RiPS minister and deputy head of the PiS club, Marlena Maląg, commented on the situation regarding the election of the deputy presidents of the Sejm and the Senate and members of the National Council of the Judiciary on Wednesday in the first program of Polish Radio.
On Monday, the Sejm and Senate elected speakers, deputy speakers and secretaries of both Houses during the opening sessions. PiS candidate for deputy chairman of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, did not win a majority. Marek Pęk, the PiS candidate for vice-president, did not receive support in the Senate.
On Tuesday, Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz (KO), Robert Kropiwnicki (KO), Tomasz Zimoch (Poland 2050) and Anna Maria Żukowska (left) were elected by the Sejm as members of the National Council for the Judiciary. However, the Sejm rejected four candidates proposed by PiS: Marek Ast, Bartosz Kownacki, Kazimierz Smoliński and Arkadiusz Mularczyk; all four were previously members of the National Council for the Judiciary on behalf of the Sejm. The discussion about this was stormy.
The Minister of Family and Social Policy was asked what happened during the first session of the new Sejm in the first program of Polish Radio.
When the host noted on Tuesday that it was hot in the Sejm, Maląg confirmed that it was “very hot”.
The new marshal, who will fulfill this position on a rotating basis, will introduce new regulations. He probably wants to remain calm, but the rules of procedure of the Sejm sessions clearly state that the Constitutional Minister or Secretary of State of the President’s Chancellery may participate at any time for an indefinite period.
– said the minister.
She referred to the situation when the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, Łukasz Schreiber, asked to speak, and the Chairman of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, asked him to make his statement for three minutes, as accepted during the club moods.
Mr Marshal interpreted that he was responsible for setting the time. (…) This certainly does not look like a dialogue or solutions that should serve Poland. This is the implementation of the total opposition’s plan: seize power at all costs
– she assessed.
She added that this was also visible on Monday, when the vice-chairmen of the Sejm and the Senate were elected.
PiS does not change candidates
Elżbieta Witek and Marek Pęk are the candidates nominated by the PiS club. We will not act under the dictatorship of anyone, PiS MP and head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs Radosław Fogiel said on Polskie Radio 24 on Wednesday.
We heard the Democratic majority’s verdict on October 15, maybe a little later, but it’s the election date. This democratic majority supported Law and Justice, making us the largest club in the Sejm. If someone denies our club the right to nominate a candidate chosen by the club members and tries to censor us, he is not insulting us, this candidate, but more than seven million Poles and denying them the right to representation in the Presidium of the Sejm.
– said Radosław Fogiel.
He pointed out that “the dictatorship of the majority is a phenomenon that can occur.”
Trying to guarantee your right to have a deputy marshal, provided we like him, is like that. We’re in different groups, we’re different politically, that’s what it’s all about. Each club has the right to appoint its candidate independently
– he pointed out.
According to Fogel, “the responsibility for ensuring pluralism and representation of all political forces lies with the majority in the room.”
This is a matter of principle
– added.
When asked whether PiS would nominate candidates other than Elżbieta Witek and Marek Pęk, the PiS MP emphasized that “these are the candidates declared by the Law and Justice Club and by all parliamentarians.”
We will not act under the dictate of anyone
– he pointed out.
