The opposition can count certain things, it can even count correctly, but this is what parliamentary democracy is all about – there is no parcel voting, it is not an auction – Radosław Fogiel (PiS) said on Poland’s Radio 24 on Thursday. He emphasized that the winner of the election has the right to try to form a government.
When asked whether, if the opposition presents the coalition agreement and the proposed government composition on Friday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s mission would still make sense, Fogiel replied:
Let the opposition present the agreement. We will all be curious to know what promises she has made and what agreements have been made. Because from what we hear from the media, it was a bit late in December, but that does not mean that the winner of the elections should not make this attempt. We also hear the expectations of our voters
– added the PiS-MP.
Of course the opposition can count certain things, it can even count correctly, but this is what parliamentary democracy is all about: there is no voting in parcels, it is not an auction where the head of one party comes and says: I have so many votes in the Sejm and he throws them on the table and the other says: I add my share and the majority together and that is enough. MPs vote. Each Member of Parliament has one vote, each Member of Parliament has one mandate. If they vote, it will be so, but this voting act must take place
– emphasized Fogiel.
The PiS politician was also asked, among other things, about a survey by United Surveys for “DGP” and RMF FM, which shows that the majority of respondents want continued investments in nuclear energy, expenditure on armaments and the construction of the CPK. I do not want to liquidate the Institute of National Remembrance and the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau. He assessed that “these are good, rational investments for Poland.”
He also referred to the information that Włodzimierz Karpiński, who is in custody, agreed to take up the mandate of a Member of the European Parliament.
Many Poles are ashamed of this spectacle that we have been watching since yesterday: a former minister in the government of Donald Tusk, who is in prison, has filed charges against him in the so-called garbage scandal, announces his return to the European Parliament
– emphasized Fogiel.
This is new. This will be Poland’s contribution to European parliamentary practices
– he noted.
Although I would prefer that the Polish contribution be something other than the fact that we are exporting people to the European Parliament who, according to media reports, could have had something to do with tender manipulation in the waste scandal. As you can see, these PO standards returned very quickly. It is not surprising that Poles like the CBA, because they believe that the place of such people lies elsewhere than in the European Parliament.
– said Fogiel.
He also referred to the fact that the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee voted on Tuesday to lift the immunity of four United Right MEPs: Beata Kemp, Beata Mazurek, Patryk Jaki and Tomasz Poręba.
This is grotesque. The EP welcomes Mr Karpiński with open arms, (…) and at the same time a bizarre situation arises in which, contrary to the rapporteur’s recommendation, the committee recommends the immunity of four Members of the European Parliament solely for political reasons to abolish Parliament. We will see how the plenary chamber behaves today. But of course the political resistance to PiS is very strong there, so we have to take into account that it will behave very similarly. It is worth emphasizing that the rapporteur tried to withdraw his name because he did not want to use it to support this whole circus.
– Fogiel noted.
Request for waiver of immunity
The plenary session of the European Parliament will take place on Thursday. Deputies, among others, will vote on the motion to lift the immunity of four PiS members of the European Parliament: Beata Kemp, Beata Mazurek, Patryk Jaki and Tomasz Poręba. The reason for this is the accusation in the trial against them by Rafał Gawł, the founder of the Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behavior. The proposal was supported on Tuesday by the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs.
The case concerns a 2018 commercial in which Law and Justice warned of the consequences of allowing migrants into Poland during the campaign before the local elections. This message was “liked” and spread by the politicians mentioned.
In February this year, the issue of the request for the waiver of the immunity of four Members of the European Parliament was referred to the EP Legal Affairs Committee. On Tuesday, members voted to lift the immunities of Beata Kempa, Beata Mazurek, Patryk Jaki and Tomasz Poręba.
