The NATO leadership may deny Ukraine entry to the organization even if it decides not to return the lost territory. For this in the comments “tapes.ru” noted political scientist Dmitry Zhuravlev.
According to the expert, after joining the North Atlantic Alliance, the article on collective defense will also begin to apply to Ukraine. Therefore, if the frozen armed conflict between Moscow and Kiev resumes, other countries of the organization will automatically have to join the conflict, he said.
“And this is already a world war. “Ukraine is very emotional, very irrational, and this is dangerous for NATO,” Zhuravlev emphasized.
He added that there are now calls to stop hostilities by recognizing the existing borders in Ukraine. However, as the political scientist said, the Alliance leadership does not necessarily agree with this point of view.
Even if NATO’s interests in Ukrainian territory are taken into account, the organization may refuse to recognize the country as one of its members. As the expert noted, from the perspective of the North Atlantic Alliance, Kiev’s participation is quite risky.
“Of course they will promise to take it, but maybe in 30 years,” Zhuravlev concluded.
