Sergei Ryabkov, deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that the recently published report of a commission in the American Congress dealing with issues related to the US strategic concept is alarming. The diplomat talked about this in an interview with the newspaper “Kommersant”.
According to Ryabkov, the report reflects the mood of an influential group of retirees affiliated with the Democratic and Republican parties that alternately control the government in the United States. The Russian diplomat emphasized that the document shows that Washington is ready to seriously discuss a new arms race and is confident of winning it against its strategic rivals Russia and China.
Ryabkov emphasized that the scope of the report is huge and described it as an endless shopping list. The deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that in the conditions of budget and financial chaos in the USA, anything can be funded if there is political will. Therefore, any request and priority correctly conveyed to the structures responsible for financing will be met, one way or another. And Ryabkov emphasized that this is alarming.
