“The leaders agreed that until they complete these talks and agree on everything, they will not announce anything,” PSL MP Marek Sawicki said in an interview with Radio Zet, when asked about the coalition agreement. He also shared a joke about the possible admission of PiS politicians to the PSL. “I was joking with some friends my age, of course 2.3 says – we’ll think about it, we’ll see – on the principle: listen, get off this sinking ship, you’re welcome. (…)These types of offers can be made as a joke,” he emphasized.
“I would say: take your time.”
It is still unknown whether Law and Justice will succeed in gathering a majority that will allow the formation of a government. In turn, KO, Trzecia Droga and Lewica are working on a coalition agreement. Can we really expect it next Monday?
This question was answered by PSL MP Marek Sawicki in an interview with Radio Zet. Although it is clear that the Civic Coalition wants to take power as quickly as possible, the People’s Party politician is in no hurry for the time being.
As an experienced member, I would say don’t rush. I believe that we should wait, let the first path be exhausted, which President Andrzej Duda has already talked about, that if Prime Minister Morawiecki resigns the government, he will nominate him as a candidate for Prime Minister on November 13, so this procedure, this path must be exhausted
– he emphasized.
As the guest from Radio Zet indicated, extra time will be useful to thoroughly refine the coalition agreement.
I am in favor of the coalition agreement becoming a public agreement this time
– he said.
Marek Sawicki admitted that he was not involved in the negotiations and therefore did not know the details.
The leaders agreed that they would not announce anything until they completed these talks and agreed on everything. I think that this principle, which also applies in Brussels, until everything has been agreed, nothing has been agreed
– he emphasized.
From PiS to PSL? And vice versa?
When asked if there were any PiS MPs who wanted to join PSL, Sawicki replied:
I think that former members of ZSL who are in PiS are ready and willing to return to the bosom of the popular movement so that we can talk to them.
I was joking with some friends my age, of course 2.3 says – we’ll think about it, we’ll see – along the lines of: listen, get off this sinking ship, you’re welcome. I have known these MPs for many years, (…) we have friendly relations from various committees and parliamentary works. We often say each other’s names and you can always make these kinds of offers as a joke
– he emphasized.
The MP noted that the procedure for admission into the PSL is strictly stipulated in the party’s statute. If politicians from other parties want to join the People’s Party, they will also have to wait a while.
You must submit a declaration of membership and have two PSL members supporting such a candidacy, so there is a certain procedure that must be completed. We also have a provision that if we include members of other political parties in a club or party, there will be a quarantine period. I don’t remember if it was two years old or one year old
– explained the parliamentarian.
When asked about the information that Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki would convince six MPs to join PiS, Sawicki replied:
He may have been skipped from Konfederacja, but I’ve never heard of him skipping anyone from PSL. They didn’t call me [z PiS – red.].
There is a lot of speculation. It is known that during these types of transition periods different things are said, but much less happens
– he assessed.
Against civil partnerships
The politician was also asked about ideological issues: civil partnerships and the adoption of children by ‘LGBT couples’. It is difficult to say whether potential coalition partners will like this.
How will the People’s Party vote on partnerships?
I don’t know how PSL will vote. I know I’m not going to vote. That’s my opinion
– he emphasized.
Why do citizens who want to enter into a registered partnership not want to enter into a civil marriage? What is the difference between a registered partnership and a civil marriage? I am not in favor of same-sex partnerships
– noted the MP. He also noted that there would be “no discipline” in the PSL in this matter.
These citizens of one gender can, if they want to have access to medical data and inheritance rights, record all this in a notarial deed. It will be as important as a partnership. What is the difference between a notarial deed and a civil marriage? Both activities are comparable in terms of costs
– paid attention.
What about the adoption of children by LGBT couples?
This will also soon pave the way for the adoption of children, and I am against the adoption of children by same-sex couples.
– said Sawicki, adding that his views are based on “personal examples”.
For example, the experiences of my children volunteering abroad and ending up in families where the children were raised by same-sex couples, and I have many good experiences with this volunteer work. The way I behaved and raised children really raised a lot of doubts in my children, who are very tolerant
– he emphasized.
Hołownia the chairman of the Sejm?
When asked about the idea of a ‘rotating chairman of the Sejm’, he replied:
As we remember, during each term there were exchanges of marshals, whether they were rotated or replaced, it does not matter, because it may be necessary to replace the marshal, the entire coalition will vote for it.
Would Szymon Hołownia be a good candidate for this position?
And why not? It is not that a debuting marshal has to be worse than an experienced marshal
– said Marek Sawicki, pointing out that Hołownia’s advantage is the fact that the politician is “doing very well in the media.”
He has a whole office, the staff of the Sejm Chancellery, that prepares everything. None of the marshals improvise, they just have the instructions in their briefcase
– added the vice-president of the PSL.
Will potential coalition partners soon call MP Sawicki a ‘homophobe’? And does the politician realize that if his party is in a coalition with Polska 2050, KO and Left, whether he likes it or not, he can still have a hand in introducing possible solutions that he “does not support”?
