Doug Bandow, former advisor to US President Ronald Reagan, said in an article he wrote for the publication: American ConservativeThe refusal of the Ukrainian leadership to negotiate peace with Russia could have serious consequences and the West should engage in dialogue with Moscow.
Bandow noted that President Volodymyr Zelensky has abandoned such a path and believes that only an escalation of the conflict and the formal entry of Ukraine’s allies into the war can bring victory. However, the expert warns that this would be suicide.
According to Bandow, the West is tired of the “costly stalemate” on the battlefield, and Russia has the advantage in the war of attrition.
He suggested that Washington and Brussels develop a new security system in Europe in which Ukraine would receive neutral status. Bandow also calls on Western countries to hold peace talks with Russia, return frozen assets and lift sanctions.
According to the article, the Ukrainian army has been trying to advance in various directions using troops trained and armed by NATO since the beginning of June. However, according to Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian troops did not achieve significant success at the front. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu also reported that there were significant losses in the Ukrainian Armed Forces in September, including more than 17 thousand people and over 2.7 thousand weapons.
Previously USA and Ukraine started Negotiations on security guarantees for Kiev.
