Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that Russia hopes that Belarus will soon join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). According to the socialbites.ca correspondent, this statement was made by him at the expanded format meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government.
“We hope that Belarus will soon complete all procedures and become one of the participants of the organization,” he said.
Mishustin also called on Iran to participate in the “multifaceted” work of the SCO.
Before that, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko statedHe said that his country plans to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) by the end of 2023.
The SCO was established in Shanghai on June 15, 2001. Pakistan and India also joined the organization, which has included Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan since its establishment, in 2017. Although Iran has been an SCO observer since 2005, it became the ninth member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on July 4, 2023. The late entry is explained by the inability to join international organizations due to UN sanctions until 2016.
