President Andrzej Duda’s consultation with representatives of the electoral commissions starts on Tuesday. During the afternoon, discussions were planned with PiS and later with KO. The president announced that he would ask politicians about their ideas for investments, the economy, energy and defense, as well as potential candidates for prime minister.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, President Andrzej Duda invited representatives of the electoral commissions that will be represented in the next Sejm for consultations. The meetings will take place with each of the election committees separately, in the order according to the results achieved by these committees in the elections.
On Tuesday at Meetings with representatives of the Law and Justice Commission are scheduled at 12:00 14 consultations with KKW Civic Coalition PO .N IPL Zieloni. On Wednesday, the president will meet with representatives of Szymon Hołownia’s KKW Trzecia Droga Polish People’s Party – Poland 2050 (11 a.m.), KW Nowa Lewica (1 p.m.) and KW Konfederacja Wolność i Niepodległości (3 p.m.).
The president announced in a recent interview for Tygodnik Solidarność that he would ask election commissions, among other things: about their ideas for investments, economy, energy and defense. Andrzej Duda also announced that he would ask committee representatives about potential candidates for prime minister, and whether they think they have a majority that would allow them to push through their candidate for prime minister.
The president noted that he hoped the talks would proceed peacefully. He pointed out that today we are “in a very good constitutional time” and he sees no reason to interrupt the Sejm’s current term of office, which lasts until mid-November.
Andrzej Duda also emphasized that if the new government wants to move away from current policies regarding investments, building Poland’s security or defense, it will “definitely join the discussion.” At the same time, he assured that he would not allow the abolition of social benefits.
The current head of government, Mateusz Morawiecki, will be PiS’s candidate for prime minister.
The natural candidate for premier is Mateusz Morawiecki. No changes can be made to this at the moment
– emphasized Jacek Sasin, Minister of State Assets. He pointed out that it is customary in Poland for the president to entrust the mission of forming a government to the party that won the most seats in the elections. PiS will be represented at the meeting with the president by: Mateusz Morawiecki, Ryszard Terlecki and party spokesperson Rafał Bochenek.
The candidate for prime minister of three opposition committees – the Civic Coalition, the Third Way and the Left – will be the head of the PO, Donald Tusk. Before starting consultations with the president on Tuesday morning, the leaders of these three opposition formations must make a joint statement on this issue: they must ensure that they are ready to form a future government with Tusk as prime minister.
Cezary Tomczyk (PO) announced last week that Donald Tusk would go to the presidential palace for talks.
Donald Tusk, as a candidate for prime minister, will certainly not only meet President Andrzej Duda, but will also soon receive his nomination, as happens in every democratic country.
– said Tomczyk.
We know what the Poles’ choice looks like, we know what the future coalition looks like and the sooner we implement the Poles’ will, the better. Today, Mateusz Morawiecki is still Prime Minister. The sooner this ends, the sooner the will of the people of our country will be fulfilled
– added.
On behalf of the Third Way, President of PSL Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Leader of Poland 2050 Szymon Hołownia will meet the President. According to the deputy head of Poland 2050, Michał Kobosko, the opposition’s message during the meeting with Andrzej Duda will be coherent and concern the willingness to form a new government. He also expressed the expectation that the President would, without undue delay, entrust the formation of the new government to the alliance that won the majority in the elections. According to Koboska, entrusting the government to the United Right would be a “waste of Polish time.”
On Monday, Kosiniak-Kamysz said at a press conference after the NKW meeting that his party is determined that “this government will be formed as soon as possible.”
We’re taking this mission to the president, so as not to waste time. The Poles have clearly decided in which direction they want to transfer power and which projects they want to implement
– noted the Chairman of the Party. He added that for PSL, “areas related to rural areas and agriculture are very important.”
The Left will be represented by the co-chairman of New Left, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, and the head of the club, Krzysztof Gawkowski. According to Gawkowski, the left will go to a meeting with the president with the position that PO, Left and Third Way should form the government. Senator of the Left Wojciech Konieczny announced that representatives of the Left will talk to the president about their vision, which they presented during the election campaign.
The President is aware that the left guarantees the preservation of various social achievements made in recent years, so I believe that the talks here will take place in a very friendly atmosphere.
– he said.
Confederation co-chair Krzysztof Bosak announced that his party would send broader representation to the president’s meeting; The leaders of the Confederation of the Crown of Poland and New Hope will appear.
We expect discussions about the new government and which coalitions can be formed. Our position is very clear, that is, we do not intend to enter into a coalition with PiS or the Platform, but we do not want prolonged chaos in the country. If there is a majority, let’s get to work and we want to play our role, that is, the substantive opposition, which will represent the interests of the Poles
– he said.
In the Sejm elections, PiS won 194 seats, KO – 157; Third way – 65; New Left – 26; Confederacy – 18.
The constitution provides for three possible steps in selecting the government after the elections. In the first, the President plays a major role, who, among other things, appoints the Prime Minister, taking into account that the government he proposes must receive the support of an absolute majority in the Sejm in order to receive a vote of confidence. If this attempt fails, the Sejm takes the initiative. Then the Prime Minister and the government need an absolute majority of votes in the presence of at least half of the legal number of deputies. If parliamentarians fail to form a government, the initiative returns to the president and a simple majority is required for a vote of confidence.
