There is no guarantee that President Andrzej Duda will not veto new laws passed by the new parliament. We have to prepare for something like a political and legal chess game, said KO Senator-elect Adam Bodnar on TVN24.
When asked if there is a guarantee that President Andrzej Duda will not veto laws passed by the parliamentary majority, Bodnar admitted that “there is no guarantee”.
We must first of all prepare ourselves for something like political and legal chess. If at some point it fails and the president vetoes it, we have to pass the bill, maybe tweak it a little, and do it again.
– he explained.
As he noted, if this also fails, “we should ask the president what his plans are for himself, even after the end of his term – whether he wants to continue the mission of someone who has good relations with the world, in the context of the war in Ukraine, or “maybe he just wants to be a politician who serves the interests of the outgoing power camp.”
Bodnar was also asked about the future of NBP President Adam Glapiński, whose term ends in 2028.
You have to live with it. I don’t really see what constitutional arguments there could be for shortening this term
– he made a reservation.
It is about answering a deeper question, namely: are all the changes we want to make only to achieve a political goal, or are we always and everywhere acting in accordance with the Constitution? I am in favor of the latter solution, even though it may cost us money
– he emphasized.
He added that this also applies to the National Broadcasting Council.
I fear such a scenario that if this Constitution is violated here and there, or if it is somewhat ignored or disregarded somewhere, it will soon become apparent that the democratic opposition will become entangled in its own At some point there will no longer be a point.references. Citizens fought for the Constitution and I think it should be a guideline, even if it takes more time.
– he said.”
“There are some things we can’t do”
According to him, the role of politicians is to explain that “sometimes we cannot do certain things, that it is difficult, they have concretized themselves, they have poured tons of cement over various state institutions, but we cannot act in this way. “
He added that “there are several random cases in the meantime.”
It could be that someone resigns, or suddenly it turns out that someone changes their position on all kinds of matters
– said Bodnar.
Asked whether it was necessary to return to the separation of the functions of the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General, he replied that “it is even an obligation.”
There is no debate as to whether this is the right thing to do. Once again, a bill has been prepared and recently announced by the Lex Super Omnia association
– he inquired.
We have all these experiences of separation and we simply need to return to our good institutional solutions, but also think about what did not work before 2015, what was not the best. Therefore, even as we discuss all these changes regarding the rule of law, I assure you that citizens will be watching all these matters and will be interested in whether their Swiss franc affairs will accelerate, or matters regarding the repressive law of 2016 will be dealt with quickly. heard, and what about the courts, work, whether access to them will be unblocked, whether family courts will quickly resolve cases involving contact with children or divorce cases
– he named.
As he emphasized: “This must be done in parallel – on the one hand, institutional issues and on the other, the restoration of the justice system.”
Adam Bodnar knows very well that the president has the right to veto laws made by parliament. This happened when PiS was in power, and it will most likely happen under the rule of the new parliament. In the meantime, the KO senator himself is already introducing confrontational rhetoric towards the head of state.
