““Gazeta Wyborcza” decided to mobilize opposition voters to vote, arguing that the upcoming elections are as important as the partially free elections of 1989, if not more so. “The Democrats lost in 2015, they lost in 2019. If they lose now in 2023, we will face pure authoritarianism in Russian-Turkish-Hungarian colors” – he scares the readers of “GW”.
““Pure authoritarianism”
In an extensive text signed by the editors of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, the Czerska daily seduces its readers with a vision of a Poland that is “cheerful, friendly, cordial and open, where the authorities do not interfere with police units of the separate citizens.” cordons, don’t spread hate”, “European, tolerant, (…) where women are not afraid to give birth.” On the other hand – if the opposition loses again – it threatens with ‘pure authoritarianism in Russian-Turkish-Hungarian colours’, ‘their state, their villains, their political police, their pegasuses, their telescopic batons, their women’s mortuaries, their fascist militias ” and even “their state religion”.
The Democrats lost in 2015, they lost in 2019. If they lose now in 2023, we will face pure authoritarianism in the colors of Russian-Turkish-Hungarian. There will be no more free elections. There will be their state, their courts, their guards, their political police, their Pegasuses, their telescopic batons, their women’s morgues, their fascist militias, their ‘culture’, school, state religion.
– name the authors who somehow lost the Belarusian colors, but perhaps after admiring the film “Green Border” and attacking the government and services regarding the migrants taken by the Lukashenko regime, they decided were conveyed that it would be too much. I wonder if, when they printed Putin’s letter to the Poles a year after the Russian attack on Georgia, they already considered the system in Moscow as “pure authoritarianism.”
According to the editorial staff of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, the past eight years have been “the worst in the history of the Third Polish Republic”. The authors note that we are currently experiencing “unprecedented mobilization.”
Crowds of people come to meetings of opposition candidates. There is civilian control of the elections. There was optimism. We’ve had enough!
– they claim.
“‘Powerful ambitions seasoned with national delusions of grandeur’
The past eight years, according to journalists from Gazeta Wyborcza, have been a time of ‘contempt for citizens, takeover of courts, tribunals and the civil service, trampling on the constitution and parliamentarism, defamation of public media, destruction of private media, humiliation of sexual minorities .”
the milking of the state, the kleptocracy and the oligarchy, the attacking of foreigners, the promotion of fascism and Catholic fundamentalism by the authorities, the women’s hell, the felling of forests, the destruction of local governments, healthcare and education, poisoning social life, expelling Poles from the common Europe, scandals multiply like a cancer, shouting propaganda lies
– continues “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
Under PiS rule, Poland became a synthesis of the pre-war Sanation and the National Democrats. From the former it inherited its brutal, authoritarian governance practices, from the latter its nationalist ideology and hate speech. The PiS government is an anachronistic but sinister copy of the Endosanation with a mixture of Gomułka-Gierkowski’s PRL. State weakness, corruption, boastfulness and superpower ambitions seasoned with national delusions of grandeur
– emphasize the authors. “Superpower ambitions” sound a bit straight out of Russian or Belarusian propaganda, and “national megalomania” is simply the defense of Poland’s dignity and interests.
There was also an “expert” analysis of the current situation in the army.
Now the Dyzmas of the Third Polish Republic become generals. The PiS supervisor of the WOT, which was essentially a police formation, was appointed chief of staff
– this “essentially police formation” worked very well, for example during the COVID-19 pandemic, after that it was not so bad even for Czerska.
It is not even Błaszczak who rules the army, but the ‘Deputy Prime Minister of Security’, who threw himself in a frenzy on an enemy circle at the ‘Smolensk steps’ on Tuesday.
– we “discover” further. Naturally, editor Michnik would remain calm if someone repeatedly provoked him while he was laying flowers at his brother Stefan’s grave.
What kind of Poland does Czerska want?
Then ‘GW’ journalists do what they have been accusing Law and Justice of doing for years: they prey on tragic death, although in this case it concerns one person: Piotr Szczęsny, who committed self-immolation in 2017.
“GW” interweaves the words from the suicide note with… the demands of the striking shipyard workers from August ’80.
Another Poland is within reach. A cheerful, friendly, warm and open Poland, where the authorities do not separate themselves from the citizens with police cordons and do not spread hatred to divide and conquer. A European, tolerant Poland is possible, where young people and LGBT+ people do not want or have to leave, but come back and invite their friends. Poland where women are not afraid to give birth
– argue the “peace doves” and the “Cardbears” from Czerska.
Piotr Szczęsny wrote: “I ask you, however: remember that PiS voters are our mothers, brothers, neighbors, friends and colleagues. It is not about waging war with them (which is what PiS would want) or “converting them” (because that is naive), but about implementing their positions in accordance with the law and democratic principles.
– and that is why these “compassionate people”, who do not want to go to war with PiS supporters, announce in the next paragraph that “they will win, they will hold the criminals accountable – and we will reconcile. ”
Innuendo and a quote from Piotr Szczęsny
Further on in the text ‘GW’ sounds increasingly hysterical. He directly points to three blocs worth voting for: Civic Coalition, Left and Third Road, and also makes certain insinuations:
Kaczyński will remain in power by any means necessary, both legal and extralegal. (We’ll see if the resignations and appointments of generals who submit to the government aren’t part of some post-election scenarios?). It does not matter whether he has a sufficient majority to govern or whether he buys/bribes it. The news will come out that PiS has “won the elections again”. Let’s not let him do this. The democratic world has enough problems of its own to still feel sorry for the state of Polish democracy. No one will help us if we don’t help ourselves. We at “Wyborcza” will certainly not give up
– emphasized. So maybe this ‘democratic world’ will understand that nothing is happening with democracy in Poland and tackle the real problems?
Let us be careful, let us persuade, let us help, let us inform the indifferent and indecisive. Let’s vote en masse! (…) Let’s vote as Piotr Szczęsny would like: “I, an ordinary, ordinary person like you, appeal to all of you – don’t wait any longer! We must change this government as soon as possible before it completely destroys our country and completely robs us of our freedom. And above all I love freedom”
– we read in the summary.
Despite the optimism arising from the new Platform commercial, there is increasing despair in the editorial office on Czerska Street. Moreover, a socially sensitive magazine like Gazeta Wyborcza must be aware that glorifying suicides and suicides is a dangerous phenomenon. As you can see, these ‘democrats’ are slowly letting go.
