A debate was held in the European Parliament on accelerating work on the Migration Pact, in particular the so-called Migration Pact trilogues, ie final agreements on the content of the regulations between the Commission, Parliament and the Council.
The debate was held at the request of the European People’s Party (EPP), and its leader, Manfred Weber, demanded not only the approval of the pact in the form initially adopted by the Council of the European Union, but also the acceleration of implementation of the pact. so that it can enter into force on January 1, 2024.
Silence from PO and PSL
MEPs from the Platform and PSL cautiously did not participate in this debate. After all, their leaders in Poland, Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz, claim during the election campaign that they are against accepting illegal immigrants, so they have to hide their true views on this before the elections.
And these true views mean agreeing to accept illegal immigrants, as desired by the Germans, who are eager to share with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe hundreds of thousands of immigrants that they have not been able to manage since 2015.
Let us not forget that in 2015, Chancellor Angela Merkel opened not only Germany’s borders to illegal immigrants, but also all external borders of the European Union and Schengen countries with a specific “rezlich willkomen” invitation.
The consequences of this particular ‘invitation’ are borne not only by Germany, but also by most countries of the European Union, and subsequent German instructions regarding the current situation regarding illegal immigration are widely regarded as impertinent.
Let us also recall that at the previous meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated in her annual State of the Union address “that illegal immigration is a European challenge that requires a European response required” and called on other EU countries to “welcome some of the migrants arriving in Italy”.
So the President of the European Commission’s ‘plan’ regarding illegal immigrants is to quickly deploy them in other Member States, and now it is clear that the ‘plan’ will be implemented on the basis of EU coercion.
This statement, quoted by the largest agencies, has already provoked reactions in ‘expatriate chat rooms’. There are a growing number of people willing to travel across the Mediterranean from various African countries, and an intensive search is also underway for additional carriers to meet the growing interest. in the field of transport.
The President of the European Commission, by encouraging smugglers to work even faster than before, has paved the way for a new EU mechanism for the resettlement of illegal immigrants, called the ‘mandatory solidarity mechanism’, as strange as it may sound.
This does not allow you to accept immigrants assigned to a particular country using a mathematical algorithm, but such a country pays 22,000 PLN. euro for every euro not included in the EU budget.
The parliamentary majority in the EP adopted this mechanism (left-wing MEPs voted in favor, platform members abstained, PSL members withdrew their ballot paper, only PiS members were against), the majority of Member States also agreed with this mechanism, only Poland and Hungary. The Czech Republic and Slovakia have protested against this at the level of the Council of the European Union.
The importance of the referendum
In this situation, the role of the Polish referendum is increasing, also when it comes to not accepting illegal immigrants. If Poland massively opposes the admission of illegal immigrants, and more than 50% of those eligible to vote participate in the referendum, our government will gain an advantage. powerful advantage in the debate on the immigration pact.
Moreover, such a referendum can be ‘contagious’. There is already talk of the need to organize a similar referendum in France, to which President Macron has already agreed. After the ‘successful’ referendum in Poland, more countries may be prepared to organize this.
And as for the results of such referendums, there can be no doubt that the majority of societies in Western European countries are also against accepting illegal immigrants, and this would call into question the entry into force of the Immigration Pact.
