“I saw a lot of things, I realized that things were going in the wrong direction when it came to national security and defense, but I didn’t think it was that tragic. This is no longer a joke,” said Romuald Szeremietiew, former Minister of National Defense, in an interview with wPolityce.pl.
wPolityce.pl: The series “Reset” revealed how PO agreed to cooperation between Polish and Russian services. What could such a collaboration between services actually look like?
Romuald Szeremietiew: The picture that emerges from these documents, and no one doubts their credibility, is unimaginably terrible. Critics simply say that such documents should not be made public. It’s probably just sad for those who tinkered with it. I saw a lot of things, I realized that things were going in the wrong direction when it came to national security and defense, but I didn’t think it was that tragic. This isn’t a joke anymore.
What was it like during your time in the army?
It was especially bad during the PO-PSL government. PSL is also guilty. The Minister of Defense included Mr Dobrzański. Furthermore, every minister, including Minister Klich, has always had deputy ministers from PSL. I assumed it looked bad, and what Minister Błaszczak revealed with his plan to defend Poland on the Vistula Line confirmed my suspicions. I said we were disarmed, but there was only tactful silence around us.
It wasn’t a technical collaboration?
This is not cooperation from this document, which is compromising because it was written by Russians who do not know the Polish language. The document contains a provision that the parties will inform each other of any third-party activities that could threaten the overthrow of the government or the collapse of the system. On the Russian side, it is known how Putin and his colleagues assess the actions of the opposition.
Does this mean that Poland, for example, would extradite Russian oppositionists?
There was such a case, albeit not among Russian oppositionists, but among Belarusian oppositionists. Radosław Sikorski provided information about the Belarusian oppositionist and received a hefty prison sentence for it. This looks really bad. God forbid this company wins the next election.
