PPCV today introduces the person elected to head the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP), who will assume the leadership of the body at the constitutional plenary meeting scheduled for tomorrow, thanks to the majority achieved by the people on 28 March. The party keeps her name secret, but the profile seems clear: a woman from the province of Valencia and preferably a regional MP.

The first two requirements are imposed in practice as a matter of balance, as popular sources familiar with the process acknowledge. They are aware of this after presenting Carlos Mazón to the Generalitat in the conservative formation. Vicen Mompó and Toni Pérez On behalf of the councils of Valencia and Alicante, Marta Barrachina (President of the Castellón Provincial Council) is the only woman in charge of a supra-municipal institution. “Yes, a woman touches,” the cited sources admit.

Likewise, quotas limit the options of the pick from Mazón’s native Alicante, and Mazón has already recruited several high-ranking officials for Consell’s second step. As a result, as confirmed by the consulted sources, everything indicates that the chosen one will be from the province of Valencia, as well as being a woman.

These two situations would cause the mayor of Alicante to step back. Luis Barcalaa person who excludes himself from the selection process.

Besides Barcala, the names of the mayors of Torrent and Xirivella, Amparo Folgado and Paqui Bartual, were also included in the race, but in the last few hours various sources from PPCV have relativized their options.

The election of Folgado to head the municipal council with the second largest population in the state of Valencia could be interpreted as a snub against María José Catalá, mayor of València and former mayor of Torrent, for being a party loyalist. There were tensions with Folgado.

At the other extreme, the winning candidate is that of Paz Carceller, who was re-elected as mayor of Puçol for a second consecutive term on March 28. Both he and Bartual are also deputies in the Cortes; As PPCV sources confirm, the party will not force them to give up if they are elected to head the FVMP, something that has happened to Consell’s top officials.

This point could strengthen the options of Carceller, who has more experience in the Valencian assembly, where he already held a seat in the previous parliament. Bartual, on the other hand, will make his debut in the Cortes this year, and some party sources believe that the FVMP presidency may require too much workload.

three vice presidents

At Wednesday’s general assembly, in addition to the presidency, three vice-presidential positions of the municipalities federation will also be determined. As confirmed in PPCV, one of them will be transferred to secure PSPV and the same process will be finalized with Compromís.

It is certain that Miguel Bailach will take part in the management. PPCV Organizing Regional Secretary and Massamagrell councilor Bailach was in charge of the election process together with Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, general secretary of the popular Valencians and Mazón’s strongman in the party.

Rubén Alfaro will become PSPV’s vice president

In addition to the presidency, the three vice-presidency positions of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces will also be distributed at tomorrow’s general assembly meeting. PP will give one of these seats to PSPV and the other probably to Compromís. Socialists at the Board of Directors held yesterday afternoon preferred continuity in this institution and agreed that the vice-presidency should be assumed by Rubén Alfaro, mayor of Elda since 2015 and who led the FVMP during the last two terms.
