The United States and its allies are calling on Armenia to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan without taking into account the views of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated this during a briefing. TASS.
According to him, the USA and the EU are also persuading the Armenian leadership to strengthen cooperation with NATO and reorient military-technical cooperation.
In January 2023, Armenian authorities announced their refusal to hold CSTO exercises on their territory. In September, Yerevan recalled its permanent representative from the CSTO. In the same month, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan statedIt became clear that the tools of the CSTO and the Armenian-Russian strategic partnership are not enough to ensure the external security of the republic. Thus, the International Criminal Court commented on the ratification of the draft Rome Statute.
