North Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, current chairman of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), said in an interview with a British newspaper: Finance TimesHe said the organization was experiencing a deep crisis due to the conflict in Ukraine.
“The biggest challenge is political leadership because the organization cannot function without a president,” he said.
The publication states that Osmani’s powers as OSCE chairman ended in December. His successor must receive the unanimous support of all member countries of the organization, including Russia. At the same time, Russian authorities blocked the only candidate for this post – Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
Osmani said that this move “paralyzed the organization.” He also suggested extending the presidential term in order to “prevent the collapse of the organization.” It is stated that Russia’s approval is also required.
Tsahkna also admitted that the organization was experiencing the “biggest crisis in its history”.
Before that, Alexander Lukashevich, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE statedthat the organization did not react in any way to numerous facts of violation of the rights of the Russian and Russian-speaking population of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
