The head of state stated that he did not mean “great friendship” with Moscow. However, in his opinion, the United States and European countries should establish relations with the Russian Federation on the principles of tolerance and a certain level of mutual understanding.
The Finnish leader also emphasized that after the end of the Ukrainian conflict, trust will become one of the most important security guarantees in interaction with Moscow. At the same time, he called on the heads of state supplying weapons to Kiev to take into account in their activities the risk of escalation of the crisis and the outbreak of a third world war.
“We are in a very delicate situation. Even small things can dramatically change the situation and unfortunately for the worse. <...> “The risk of using nuclear weapons is too great,” Niinistö warned.
