Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced RIA NewsThe United States will not ease sanctions against Iran despite Tehran being given access to $6 billion in frozen assets as part of the prisoner swap deal.

“We are not lifting or easing sanctions against Iran,” the ministry spokesman said.

The American foreign policy department stated that Washington will continue to oppose human rights violations by Iranian officials, destabilizing actions abroad, support for terrorism and support for Russia in the conflict in Ukraine.

The State Department also confirmed that president Antony Blinken approved the transfer of funds from South Korea to closed accounts in Qatar. He added that the United States would release five Iranian prisoners in exchange for five Americans detained in Iran.

The US State Department announced that the unfrozen funds belong to Iran and can only be used for humanitarian needs. The United States will control where the funds are sent.
