Commenting on the situation regarding the regional connection of Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Russian Federation and China have a common position that the border issue between the two states is finally resolved. As the diplomat noted, the solution to this problem was determined by the ratification of the Additional Agreement in 2005 on the Russian-Chinese state border in the eastern part of Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island, which is divided between the two countries.
“The delimitation and demarcation of our common border was completed in 2008 along its entire length (almost 4,300 km), including Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island,” he said.
Zakharova also noted that Moscow and Beijing have repeatedly confirmed that they do not have mutual territorial claims, and that a provision regarding this is also included in the Good Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation Agreement of 16 July 2001, which forms the basis of bilateral relations.
