“In 2024, South Korea will allocate 520 billion won (almost $400 million) to Ukraine, more than eight times more than this year, according to the government’s draft budget announced on Tuesday.
Half of this amount will be allocated to humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine, and a fourth to the reconstruction of this country and support to international organizations that help Ukraine, the Yonhap agency calculates.
South Korean President Jun Suk Jeol had earlier announced increased support for Ukraine during his visit to Kiev in mid-July.
South Korea will also increase the foreign aid agency’s budget from 1.4 to 2 trillion won ($1.51 billion). This change demonstrates Seoul’s efforts to not only promote the expansion of its businesses, but also to play a role as an important member of the international community, with the responsibilities that come with it.
