After the words of the head of the EPP, Manfred Weber, our opposition failed to defend them. We believe that parliament should rule on this issue, the head of the parliamentary committee for foreign affairs, Radosław Fogiel (PiS), told PAP. PiS deputies introduced a draft resolution on foreign interference in the election process.
On Tuesday, the Sejm received a draft resolution “on foreign interference in the electoral process in Poland”. It was submitted by PiS delegates and Radosław Fogiel was appointed as the applicant’s representative. The document emphasizes that “The Republic of Poland considers any foreign interference in the Polish electoral process as an act hostile to the Polish state and will resolutely oppose it.”
The project includes in response to the words of the head of the EPP, Manfred Weber, who spoke in an interview with ZDF TV about “fighting PiS”. He also stated that “each party must accept the rule of law. This is a bulwark against PiS representatives in Poland who systematically attack the rule of law and free media.
In an interview with PAP, Fogiel stressed that “the words of the German head of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber, regarding Poland were outrageous”.
Foreign politicians have no right to judge Poland’s choices and try to interfere in Polish democratic processes, and it is especially inappropriate when German politicians guilty of Poland should focus on retribution, not on preaching Polish
noted Fogel.
As he added: “in the resolution we emphasize that Poland has a much longer democratic tradition than Germany, which has no reason to speak out on this issue.”
Who rules in Poland, who forms the government, is solely the decision of the Poles and no one else
Fogel points out.
No reaction from the opposition
After Weber’s words, we saw no appropriate response from the political class as a whole
– pointed out the PiS politician.
Our opposition has failed the test
he assessed. Fogiel recalled that in a similar situation, when the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen made similar comments to Manfred Weber before the elections in Italy, the entire political class expressed its opposition and stressed that the elections of Italians are their business .
We have never heard such voices. On the contrary – part of the media and part of the opposition completely failed the test, trying to defend or even join Weber’s words, which is why we believe that the Polish parliament should express its opinion on this matter must express – he added.
Last week, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki summoned him for a television debate on October 2, following the words of the German politician.
