“We know that Marshal Grodzki, Mr. Gawłowski and Mr. Kwiatkowski are already hiding behind the immunity. I think that Roman Giertych would also like to follow this path. It shouldn’t be. In the Senate, as in the Sejm, there should be people who are absolutely beyond suspicion. This is not a storage room for suspects,” said Maria Koc, PiS senator, in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal.
wPolityce: How does the Senator view Roman Giertych’s absence from the Senate Pact list? Will Roman Giertych keep his promises to participate in the elections?

Mary Koc: Roman Giertych very much hoped that the Senate Pact would also cover him. He has been talking about running for Senate for months. Apparently, none of the circles that make up the Senate Pact wanted to accept and nominate him as their nominee. We heard that Szymon Hołownia nominated him, but as an independent candidate. Although he was closely associated with the opposition parties, especially the Civic Platform, Roman Giertych did not gain their confidence enough to denounce him. Since he won’t run from Pact, he will probably run from his own commission.
Do you think you will actually run against the candidate of the left, Magdalena Biejat in Warsaw?
He probably feels bitter in some way, hence his decision to go it alone. A man who has problems with the judiciary and the public prosecutor is investigating him should not be a candidate for the Senate at all. He must clear his name first. And stand in the truth and explain all things that follow him. The Senate is not a place where parliamentary immunity can hide several people who have problems with the law. We know that Marshal Grodzki, Mr. Gawłowski and Mr. Kwiatkowski are already hiding behind the immunity. I think that Roman Giertych would also like to follow this path. It shouldn’t be. In the Senate, as in the Sejm, there should be people who are absolutely beyond suspicion. This is not a safe for suspects.
Would the immunity help Roman Giertych with problems with the justice system?
I think that’s where his desperate desire to run comes from – to get immunity. He himself is elusive. There are reports that he is abroad, untraceable. If he had been granted immunity, the problem would have solved itself.
If Roman Giertych becomes a senator and sits on the same bench with you, how do you envision this collaboration? Are there opportunities for it?
I can’t imagine Roman Giertych in the Senate. I doubt Roman Giertych has a chance to sit on the Senate benches. If it starts from Warsaw, residents here will largely vote Civic Platform. Even if it is a candidate from the left, but within the framework of the Senate Pact, she will win more votes. However, many PO politicians still remember Roman Giertych’s childhood years and his highly controversial statements and behavior. Perhaps it was for these reasons that they did not want him in the Senate Pact. A serious candidate from PiS is also taking part in the elections. He will certainly be a well-known and respected person.
