The decision to suspend coal mining at the Turów mine will not be implemented by the government, we will take all measures to undermine it, the Minister of European Affairs, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, announced on TVP Info, referring to the decision of the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw.
In a joint statement, the Frank Bold Foundation, Greenpeace and the EKO-UNIA Ecological Association announced that the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw has determined that the Turów mine case poses a risk of causing significant damage to the environment and has suspended implementation of the environmental decision for the project.
In the autumn of 2022, a complaint was lodged against the environmental decree, including by these three organisations. Ecologists pointed out that the decision of the Warsaw Provincial Administrative Court is not legally binding and it is possible to file a complaint with the Supreme Administrative Court.
Minister of EU: The government will not implement the decision of the provincial administrative court
This verdict does not take into account the fact that a few percent of the energy produced in Poland is the energy produced there, in Turów, between 6 and 8 percent. This is an important part of our energy security and such a simple decision to shut down is not only unfeasible as it is impossible to implement without jeopardizing the energy security of the country, but it would also be socially and economically extraordinary be harmful.
– said Szynkowski aka Sęk.
It will not be implemented by the government, we will take all measures to undermine this decision, and we certainly will not implement it
– added.
He argued that responsible government cannot ignore social and economic realities.
The United Right government is by no means ignoring this reality and will not make a decision to close the Turów power plant
– emphasized the Minister of EU Affairs.
