What is the Children and Youth Parliament?
The Children’s and Youth Parliament has 460 deputies. The organization of the chamber is modeled on the procedures in place in the real Sejm, which is supposed to familiarize the participants with the principles of Polish parliamentarism. The plenary debate and the work of the committee preceding it will be held in accordance with the previously adopted Electoral Law and the Rules of the Sejm for Children and Youth.
SDiM sessions are preceded by a committee meeting, in which the authors of the top-rated papers prepare a draft resolution. It is discussed and voted on during the SDiM plenary session in the Seym Assembly Room, which ends with the handing over of the SDiM resolution to a member of the Sejm Presidium.
The SDiM resolution is a call from young people to adults (politicians, municipalities, schools, organizations) to take action on the subject of the session of the Children and Youth Parliament. The organizers of the event emphasize that neither the SDiM meeting nor the resolution itself are normative or political.
The participants in the project are student teams of two people. They are composed of pupils from one school or a group of schools who are 13 years old on the date of commencement of recruitment, i.e. February 28, 2023, and at the same time on the day of the meeting of the Children and Youth Parliament (June 1, 2023) does not turn 18. Teacher supervision of the team is not required, but parental or legal guardian consent is necessary. You can only join the SDiM session once.
Candidates for deputies of the Children and Youth Parliament were selected in a competition on the basis of a completed recruitment task.
