The madness gripping EU officials is already beginning to touch the very foundations of our existence. One of the greatest absurdities is the policy aimed at eliminating fossil fuels in the European Union: gas, coal and fuel oil. From 2030, every newly built building will have to be heated “ecologically”, in practice this concerns low temperature geothermal heat appliances. At the same time, however, each country will have to identify 15-30 percent of the old buildings with the highest energy consumption (affectionately referred to as ‘energy vampires’) in the near future and modernize them (also by 2030).
Let’s dwell on this last regulation for a moment. It means that millions of Poles living in their homes have to renovate them for big money and get some extremely expensive certificates (so-called energy passports). He is only seven years old. This will also apply to wooden houses, for example in the regions of Podlasie and Lublin, and pre-war brick houses in various parts of Poland, which are often inhabited by elderly people with a lower standard of living. It is feared that some of these people, who have no money for thermal modernization, will simply be sentenced to heavy fines for failing to carry out this “problem renovation”, and then expropriated by bailiffs (who enforce these fines). And their houses will be willingly modernized by various agencies, depending on the emissivity of the buildings, for the money obtained from bailiffs who sell pensioners’ living achievements for the purpose of forced thermo-modernization. Although the EU proposals provide for state subsidies for thermomodernization repairs, I think many Poles will not even be able to pay the basic amounts (to which the state would pay some money). Other variants can also be considered, for example by offering such elderly people a “reverse mortgage”. The house is energetically modernized, but after their death it becomes the property of a (probably German) bank. In this way, thousands of Polish properties will fall into foreign hands.
Rent is rising
In the case of multi-family houses, the costs of their thermal modernization are borne by the housing association, administration or cooperative. This will be reflected in sharp increases in apartment rents.
Let me say right away that I am convinced that the Polish government will not allow this actual expropriation of millions of elderly people, nor will this pernicious plan be implemented in general. However, this should be clearly stated, especially now in the run-up to the elections. PiS once made it clear that it would never introduce a cadastral tax in Poland.
The union’s plans also include renovation of all buildings by 2040. By this year, all gas, diesel and coal-fired stoves must be removed. In practice, this means that geothermal energy will be the only heat source. The costs of this will mainly fall on the citizen. Although journalist enthusiasts of such projects claim that Poland will be the biggest beneficiary of, among others, worth 65 billion euros (excluding national funds) from the Social Climate Fund, but I would not attach too much importance to it. First of all, we should not get this money under any pretext, just as we didn’t get a penny for the National Reconstruction Plan. Secondly, a major beneficiary of these amounts (provided they are paid) will be several agencies dealing with the emission rate of buildings. And I don’t have to convince anyone how expensive geothermal energy is. It is worth noting that these installations need to be replaced after a few years.
I’m omitting some other idiotic regulations – like the order to put photovoltaic cells on all new homes from 2030. They must be worn even if the roof of the building is permanently shaded. Let’s add that the bureaucratic difficulties associated with the installation and operation of the panels are terrifying, many Poles regret getting involved in their installation.
Germany will benefit the most
As with many other absurd EU regulations, their beneficiary will primarily be Germany. After the Russian aggression in Ukraine, the German project to use cheap (for them) gas that was transported through pipelines along the bottom of the Baltic Sea and sold profitably throughout Europe collapsed. Putin blew up and destroyed the Nord Stream pipelines. Germany, followed by obedient EU authorities, then decided that natural gas, like coal and fuel oil, was extremely unecological and introduced compulsory geothermal energy in Europe. Our neighbor on the other side of the river Oder is a leader in the production of geothermal heating systems and currently mainly German low temperature geothermal energy equipment is installed in Poland. So Germany will make a lot of money from this transformation, and it will be money from our pockets.
Poles are afraid of this and they are right. As much as possible should be done to reassure them and ensure that the Polish government will not allow the European Union to deprive millions of Poles of their roofs!
