“My conscience told me: you shouldn’t vote for it,” the German minority MP said on RMF24, commenting on his decision on Germany’s parliamentary resolution on reparations.
Ryszard Galla referred to the issue of reparations to Poland from Germany for crimes committed during World War II.
The subject of reparations is a closed one
Gall said.
He also explained why he withheld the reparations resolution.
I would vote against, I would immediately be called names as a German (…). My conscience told me: you shouldn’t vote for it. I believe there is certainly a subject that should be taken up immediately by both sides – Polish and German. I attended the meeting of the presidents – Duda and Steinmeier, who said: Mr. President, if there is a topic – we sit down at the table and talk
– he said.
When asked if Poland should receive any form of compensation from Germany, he stated:
I think so – we’re talking about compensation. I think both sides should sit down at the table.
German policy towards the war in Ukraine
When asked how he assessed Berlin’s policy on the war in Ukraine, Galla replied:
I look at it with amazement. (…) This worries me a little. These are decisions: “No, I’m not handing over,” and a decision is made in the blink of an eye
He then answered the question of whether he was ashamed of it.
A little
he answered.
