Hours after the Peruvian Congress voted on the resignation and arrest of Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, First Vice President Dina Boluarte was sworn in as the new head of state. It has been reported TASS.
As the agency noted, before the start of the ceremony, leaders of the Peruvian army and police entered the parliamentary hall and were greeted with applause by the lawmakers.
Boluarte, “I swear on behalf of my country and all Peruvians that I will conscientiously fulfill the Presidential duties that I have undertaken according to the Peruvian Constitution from today until July 26, 2026.” said.
He also condemned the coup attempt and called for a broad dialogue between all political forces in the country.
7 December Peruvian Congress announced Impeachment of President Pedro Castillo. Detained by the country’s police, President accused in rebellion and abuse of power.
Prior to that, Castillo announced the dissolution of Parliament and declared a state of emergency in Peru.
