Zinaida Lobanova When will the snow finally stop?!

I realized that people are now desperately waiting for spring. Not a day goes by without them writing down how many days they have left somewhere and how tired they are from winter. There was always this cute intellectual mumbling about being tired of winter. You might even say it’s a necessary sales pitch element. Snow, blizzard, constant darkness, then snow and blizzard again. Everyone wants to take off their felt boots, untie their Pavloposad scarf, change their wheel tires. But now there is a kind of mass confusion that comes from waiting for spring. What happened?

The groaning has been going on since mid-January: when? So when is spring? Moscow was recently covered in snow; Something unprecedented in February! – everyone was very surprised. Where else? What kind of snow? How long is possible?

The other day I saw this picture: A not-so-sober woman was getting on the tram with me, with a not-quite-full bottle of vodka in her hand, looking sadly out the window and constantly asking out loud only three questions: “When will this end? When is spring? So when is Svetlanovskaya Square? Compassionate citizens immediately told him about Svetlanovskaya: after six stops, the remaining time he asked: “Have I arrived?” They told him “No” and it started all over again: “When will all this end? When is spring? Have I arrived?” Finally someone answered him: “You won’t be able to ride here until March.”

In principle, we can talk about spring from February to April, because in our great country, climatic spring comes to many regions separately from the calendar. And in Kamchatka there is still snow in May. I can’t understand how people will get off on March 1, when the calendar spring begins. It will also snow in 70% of Russia. Krasnodar Territory and Sochi – everything is clear there, they are on a separate table.

Where did all this infantilism and whining come from? What’s so difficult this winter with steam heating in all apartments? And even gas is not only promised, but distributed everywhere.

Now that the well is frozen, you don’t need to melt the snow to get water. You don’t need to boil water on the stove to do laundry later. You don’t need to go to the river to rinse your clothes with your bare hands. Then you won’t have to hang those wet clothes out in the cold while the sheets are still dripping down your face. No such thing. Many people don’t even have a freezing outdoor toilet in their cabin anymore. So what’s up?

Why suddenly, already in the middle of February, everything becomes unbearable and you want spring?

You’ve probably heard the complaints of psychologists and sociologists about the current Generation Z? They can’t focus for long periods of time and just consume information TikTok style: short and quick. They can’t watch Soviet cinema because everything is too long. Everything needs to be done very quickly so that events can follow each other quickly.

And it seems to me that this hysterical expectation of spring at the beginning of February is something of a modern teenager. From not being able to concentrate. From the desire to scroll through the feed faster to get endless dopamine.

But the truth is that all media services in the world work for today’s youth and their needs. But with the changing of seasons this will not work because it depends on the Earth revolving around the Sun. It is impossible to spin it faster to please bored aesthetes on social networks. And they would probably know this themselves if they hadn’t skipped classes at school.

So, whether you wait or not, the Earth will make its own revolution and return. Spring will come anyway. Just know this.
