Dmitry Vodennikov Your irresistible dahlias 17.06.2023, 12:22, when our next meeting is inevitable

“The more wonderful, the more fashionable,” said my great-grandmother Baba Tata. Modern cinema has not seen.

I recently watched a new French movie: The Three Musketeers. d’Artagnan. It’s not a book, it’s a movie version, all the ups and downs have to be packed into an hour and a half, so everything there isn’t like in a novel. I have no questions here. Everything is compressed. But here is the pendentive row. Milady intercepts them at Buckingham and d’Artagnan immediately follows him. It catches up with him on the shores of the desert waves, so to speak, on the combustible Lermontov abyss. I also agree with this.

D’Artagnan points his sword at him. Milady gives him the necklaces. “Damn.” “Who are you?” He also keeps the sword at his throat. He said, “I won’t tell you. But we’ll meet again.”

Then he takes a step away from her and falls backwards off the cliff into the sea. In the desert waves (again, I’ll let myself this free quote). Question: What was keeping him from falling backwards off a cliff, but with pendants?

…. In this French film, the verse of the Kruchenykhs is like a lady, ordinary logic should not be expected from her. The poet Alexei Kruchenykh even confuses us by name: sometimes he signed himself as Alexander Kruchenykh. So are you Alexander or Alexey?

Kruchenykh wrote the most famous exaggerated poem that I’m almost sure no one remembers by heart. Even in the first line there is a time (we change our words in approximately the same way). For example, someone recites the second word in the first line with “was”. Apparently, he’s trying to add at least some human logic to this: well, there were holes though, but they were. But there is no “it”.

How cool, how fashionable: Baba Tata disapproves. However, we remember, in Kruchenykh’s own words, “In this five-line line there are more Russian citizens than in all the poems of Pushkin.”

According to legend, at the end of 1912 Burliuk suggested to him “Write a poem from unknown words.” And so the main invention of the poet was born – elusive language (incomprehensible).

When Mayakovsky, the main defender of Kruchenykh, passed away, Kruchenykh immediately felt the sharp sword of Soviet criticism in his throat. Despite the advice of Pasternak, Olesha, and Artyom Vesely, the clever man was never accepted into the Writers Guild. The Union of Soviet Writers was too close and swam away. Yes there was schyl. Only one hole left. The collective “bab Tata” at that time, predictably, did not approve of the innovator.

But something strange – as if he did not exist, Kruchenykh still existed. After the death of Twisted Roots, Chukovsky, who saw him in the first performances of the Futurists, wrote in his diary: “Strange. He was like immortal.”

Kruchenykh died of pneumonia on June 17, 1968 in a communal apartment in Moscow. Only ten people attended the funeral. Among them were Lilya Brik, Andrei Voznesensky, Gennady Aigi and Eduard Limonov.

Limonov will then write in the “Book of the Dead” away from Lily Brik so that Kruchenykh passes a tangent from here. If you can “pass” already lying in a coffin.

“So when we met, Lilya Brik herself didn’t really impress me. It impressed me even more five years ago in the crematorium of the Donskoy Monastery. There, on a stuffy day, if I’m not mistaken, it was August, we betrayed the burning of the last futurist Alexei Kruchenykh. It wasn’t exactly 1968, but more likely 1969.

Eduard Limonov mixes almost everything here. It’s not August, it’s not even July-June. Not “More likely 1969”, that is 1968.

The hole is swollen, and it does not matter which consonants go further: you can change any. And Limonov wouldn’t be remembered here if it weren’t for that chapter on flowers – Limonov is a great master of this kind of villainy. It was worth inventing it, if not the scene itself.

… Young sisists (there was such a group – “The Youngest Genius Society”, although originally “Courage, Thought, Vision, Depth”: so are you the youngest geniuses or just courage, thought, vision and depth?) the missing composition came to cremation.

But the cremation began with a farce. “Mad Anna Rubinstein” arrived at the cemetery alone and before anyone else.
“When she saw us on the street – the tanned silk dress stuck to her back, her purple eyes sparkling – she tapped her heels towards us from the crematorium building.
Where are you going, why are you late? I already put the flowers.
– Which flowers? I said angrily. – Not yet delivered.
– Why didn’t you bring it? The coffin stands and the people have already gathered.
– Where?
“At the entrance to the farewell hall, when necessary.”

In general, it was not the same coffin. According to Limonov, a dry old man was lying in the coffin in which the flowers were laid, but his surname was not Kruchenykh. The flowers that were laid were dahlias.

“I’ll go get them,” Anna said, stopping.
– Who are they? I don’t understand
– Flowers. I bought Twisted. Why would my dahlias lie in a strange old man’s coffin?
“Don’t go, you’ll be eaten,” I said.
– Why?
– Imagine, an aunt comes and pulls flowers from her relative’s coffin. Think of the thief.
“Yes,” Anna sighed. “They were still looking at me. They all know each other.”

Apparently, it could not be otherwise with the Kruchenykhs. There must be an evil note of circus madness in there. So the young fogists brought this note as best they could.

Anna Rubinstein didn’t say anything. At one point, the youngest geniuses suddenly realized that he was not among them. But she returned with flowers plucked from the mouth of someone else’s coffin.

“- I bought them Kruchenykh. Why would my starry stars lie in someone else’s old man’s coffin? – said”.

…Who are you, Alexei (or Alexander) Kruchenykh? we ask him by giving back the legitimate dahlia he doesn’t care about the smart man.
“I won’t tell,” he replies. “But we’ll meet again.”
