A friend of mine writes to me: They say I’m going to the salon. And you know, in the first weeks after New Year it was not possible to sign up – naturally crowded. Today came – the Gobi desert, the group barely got together, where did it all go?
Something I’m not surprised. My girlfriends and I have a good party tradition – buying a gym subscription on New Year’s and forgetting after the first workout like a bad dream. The moment when you look exactly like Olivier and now start a new life.
A dog with it with a subscription! I once bought a whole exercise bike for the New Year holidays! He started a new life. For five years, tights hung on it and dust came out (I was lying on a sofa nearby). In the end, I was smart enough to give it to good people. But even now there is a suspicion that the tights are not gone, it’s just someone else’s tights!
Seriously, a Russian has a tradition of starting a new life from the New Year (from Monday, after the holidays – add the right one). And I personally don’t know of a single viable example where someone has succeeded!
What is the reason? Frankly, any “tomorrow”, “in a day”, and “this week” is a sweet, fascinating self-deception. Everyone knows it’s postponed until tomorrow.
If a person decides to seriously change something, he takes it and does it now. He does not think, does not write down his desires in a notebook, he just goes and does it. And any “tomorrow” is a combination of tragic reluctance and dull necessity. Lack of strength to accept – everything suits me, I am too lazy to change something, I am not ready to waste my strength.
This is where any delay comes in. Psychologists say that laziness is not laziness at all, it is an inner, deep understanding that there is no need to act. Roughly speaking, I have to do the dishes, but I lie and I’m lazy. Never get up! But at the edge of my consciousness, I understand that after a while someone from work will come and wash everything without me. The brain simply filters the task and does not find it necessary to waste energy.
A person who buys a fitness membership, of course, most likely wants to look like a Hollywood supermodel. And he understands that it takes effort.
But in most cases the brain whispers: “Yes, you’re fine! Husband/wife loves it, there is a lot of work at work, what else is fitna, lie down, lie down. Two desires struggle in man: to be like the veil and to lie down without getting up. This fight ends quite predictably.
Life experience has taught me one thing: no number magic works! Starting a new life tomorrow is the same as not starting at all.
Therefore, for those who really want to change things, I can give you one piece of advice: do it now. Now!
After all, we do not reason, for example, when we are hungry: I will finish the project, a new day will come, the hands of the clock will show beautiful numbers and we will sing.
Immortality! We go and eat. Because we really need this.
It works the same as any fitness. “I will do it tomorrow” means the absence of both a genuine desire and, most importantly, a decision. I know for myself.
So if you want to start something, you have to start now. Or never. Otherwise it won’t work.
