The Ukrainian war with the German Leopard could enter an even more dangerous phase

The Kyiv government has been requesting this from NATO for some time, but Berlin, which should have allowed its export to third countries, has always hesitated, fearing an increasingly dangerous military escalation.

The Germans and Americans recently gave the green light to send other, lighter armored vehicles to Ukraine: the German Marder and the American Bradley.

But the Kyiv Government is not satisfied and Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba insists on Leopard as he says it will serve to hasten his country’s victory over the invading Army.

“The sooner it is decided (to surrender), the sooner this war will end with Ukraine’s victory,” Kuleba says. And what this means for Kyiv is already known: the expulsion of Russia from all occupied territories, including Crimea.

There was very strong pressure from the British and Poles, among others, so that Berlin finally gave its consent and Ukraine could get the Leopards it so craved.

Pressures reached the government of social democrat Olaf Scholz not only from outside, but also from his own liberal and green coalition partners: the latter, who specifically fought against Russia, completely forgetting their pacifist past.

The delivery, if any, of this heavy and highly mobile weapon – the Leopard, equipped with a 120 mm cannon – capable of reaching ground speeds of over 65 kilometers per hour – will allow the Ukrainian Army to move from a positional battle to a new position. new movements war.

According to strategists, the question would be, first of all, which of Moscow would use, and that his army would cross the Russian front line in this way, especially in the Luhansk and Zaporizhia region, in order to advance to the Crimea, the ultimate goal of the re-conquest. Meanwhile, the Russian armed forces have learned to defend themselves more effectively by combining static and mobile defense, and that’s exactly what the Ukrainians want to achieve in the end.

Advances will be difficult in any case, the Ukrainians will come under heavy artillery fire and have to break through the Russian fortifications, their military commanders believe that it will be easier to use the Leopard 2s and perhaps the British Challenger 2s as points of attack.

But the Russians, well-established in their positions, cannot afford to make the slightest concession, and thanks to the mobilizations decided by the Kremlin and the mercenaries of the Wagner group, they have more and more men.

So the massacre will continue. Thousands of civilians and soldiers on both sides will continue to die as simple cannon fodder for the lands they see as their homeland.

Meanwhile, the Defense Minister of Ukraine claims that his country is de facto NATO, although not yet legally. And he is right.
