Zelensky held a high‑level discussion with prosecutors from partner nations
In a moment that underscored the cross-border nature of accountability, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met with senior officials from allied prosecutor’s offices. The gathering included European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders and Spain’s top prosecutor Álvaro García Ortiz, and it focused on potential judicial inquiries tied to the ongoing conflict. The dialogue reflected a broad ambition to align investigative efforts across borders, enhancing the capacity to pursue abuses and hold perpetrators to account within a coordinated international framework.
The encounter took place amid Zelenskiy’s tour of the Lviv region in western Ukraine. Joining him were a multilateral slate of senior legal figures, among them U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan, and representatives from the United Kingdom, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and other European partners. The assembly highlighted the significance of transnational collaboration in prosecuting war crimes and serious violations, signaling a shared commitment to building a robust, credible response to abuses observed in the conflict.
During the discussions, Zelenskiy stressed the central role of the judiciary in countering aggression and safeguarding human rights. He framed the struggle against impunity as a key component of national resilience, noting that Ukraine views “true justice” as a continued effort to condemn acts of violence and exploitation occurring during the war. The Ukrainian presidency characterized the conversations as a step toward strengthening legal pathways for investigation, evidence gathering, and judicial action, aligning national and international standards to ensure accountability for violations of international humanitarian law.
