In the central plaza of Zaragoza, where La Seo de is situated, the area is often lively with young people skating around the improvised park, its steps and a decorative fountain. A serious incident disrupted the scene when a 17-year-old sustained a neck wound. The suspect was a 16-year-old who attempted to flee the scene, stopping briefly as officers approached.
The attack occurred on a Sunday at 20:20, during a busy moment when locals, visitors, and skaters filled the square. Observers quickly alerted the authorities, and room 091 received multiple eyewitness reports describing what had transpired.
A substantial police presence arrived, and members of the Aragon Police Department Citizens’ Security Brigade found the victim with a neck laceration. He remained conscious and described the assailant as moving toward La Magdalena.
Several officers transported the injured person to a hospital in a police vehicle, while others secured the vicinity. They tracked the suspect to Palomar Street, where the attacker was eventually located and detained as the alleged perpetrator of attempted murder and an additional injury. He had already covered a distance of about 800 meters. A blood-stained knife, still in one of the pockets of the Dominican teenager, was recovered during a search.
The teenager is now in the custody of juvenile guards as the Aragon Police Department’s Minor Group (Grume) investigates the circumstances surrounding the incident. Some witnesses mentioned a conversation that referenced a victim and an aggressor girl, though the prevailing conclusion points to a recent gang-related clash.
Another incident emerged the following week, this time involving a machete. The initial confrontation between the two groups reportedly began at the Garden nightclub and escalated around 8:00 a.m. outside Punta Cana Los Latinos bar, finally leading to the well-known venue in the Delicias district. The National Police has identified two groups operating in Zaragoza: Dominican Play (DDP) and Black Panther (BP). They claim the city’s activity zones roughly split between La Granja Park and the San José neighborhood for one faction, and Delicias Park along with the surrounding district for the other. The confrontations often involve knives and sticks, with violence spilling into nearby parks and public squares.
Grume officers, together with the National Police, are working to identify those involved and to disperse the groups. The challenge is significant, as youth gangs appear increasingly active, recruiting younger teens and utilizing public spaces such as city parks and schools. There is concern that some adolescents as young as 14, 15, and 16 are being drawn into these circles, sometimes exploiting social networks like Instagram to reach potential recruits. Authorities emphasize the need for vigilance and prevention to curb this troubling trend, while communities call for safer environments in both parks and schools.
