Zaporizhzhia NPP: Officials Report Normal Operations Amid Shelling as US Monitors Radiation Levels

Volodymyr Rogov, a high-ranking official on the council overseeing the Zaporizhzhia regional administration, described the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant as functioning normally after recent shelling. He conveyed to DEA News that the plant remained stable despite the attacks and noted that some shells landed near the thermal power plant and others near the nuclear facility. Importantly, he stated that the nuclear plant itself did not suffer damage and continued operations as usual.

Earlier reporting indicated that U.S. authorities had advised on changes in the radiation background around Energodar, where the Zaporizhzhia NPP is located. A senior representative of the U.S. administration communicated directly with reporters about the monitoring efforts taking place in the region. The official emphasized that U.S. agencies are actively observing the situation at the nuclear power complex.

According to those briefed by relevant U.S. agencies, there were no indications of increased or abnormal radiation levels in the area surrounding the Zaporizhzhia plant. The management official underscored that ongoing monitoring remains a priority and that any alarming shifts in radiation would be promptly communicated to authorities and the public.

In parallel, U.S. officials reiterated calls for de-escalation and the cessation of all military activities in the broader region. The aim is to reduce the risk of further incidents near critical energy infrastructure and to preserve regional stability while diplomatic channels pursue a resolution.

Volodymyr Rogov, speaking again on the matter, warned that continued Ukrainian military actions against the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant could precipitate an emergency shutdown of one of the reactors. The assertion highlights the potential safety implications tied to any escalation near a facility that supplies a significant portion of the region’s electricity and represents a sensitive, high-stakes target for both sides in the conflict.
