In Moreda, Asturias, a tense event unfolded on a Saturday night when a group of young adults who had recently moved to the town, accompanied by the Civil Guard, marched from the neighborhood where they resided. The procession included five individuals and a newborn baby, the son of one of the participants. During the unrest, one Civil Guard officer was struck by a blow, though the impact did not result in lasting injuries. The Civil Guard later described the incident as a disruption that required immediate containment to protect those involved.
According to Civil Guard officials, the disturbance began around 19:20 on Saturday. A Citizens Security patrol from the Moreda police station on Conde de Guadalhorce Street observed a person berating a group of young residents, all of whom were known to the officers, for alleged coexistence problems with newly arrived neighbors. The patrol, accompanied by the Aller Local Police, moved to intervene and prevent a worsening of the situation.
Witnesses described a sizable crowd gathering at the town’s entertainment area near the Plaza de la Iglesia. The group in conflict reportedly directed taunts at the younger individuals and engaged in acts of aggression, including slapping attendants and escalating the confrontation. In response, the Civil Guard and Local Police implemented a protective perimeter to shield those targeted and to avoid more serious harm. A blow to the face received by a Civil Guard member was noted, but it did not produce serious consequences, as stated by the security forces.
As tensions rose due to the continuous influx of people, the Civil Guard’s Operations Center (COS) dispatched additional patrols from the Citizen Safety, Traffic, and USECIC units to the area. By 22:40, it was decided that the young participants would be transported by public transport to other towns within Asturias. A security plan was established to ensure that their departure occurred peacefully and without incident, allowing them to leave their homes safely. The group of five, including the newborn, remained a focal point for authorities seeking to prevent further confrontation.
Investigation
Officials highlighted that the rapid response by the Civil Security and Local Police helped prevent the situation from deteriorating into broader attacks against the individuals involved. Investigators are actively seeking to identify those responsible for possible criminal acts. The authorities remain committed to clarifying the sequence of events and ensuring accountability for any violence observed during the altercation, according to the Civil Guard reports. These efforts underscore the ongoing commitment to public safety and orderly conduct in the town of Moreda.
