Investigators Reveal Details in the Yekaterinburg Case Involving a Six-Year-Old Boy

Law enforcement officials informed the biological mother of a six-year-old boy who died in Yekaterinburg about her son’s death. The mother described her sorrow as overwhelming and said she hopes for clarity as the investigation continues, according to E1.ru reports.

Olga Lyapustina recounted that on the morning of June 29, 2023 she received a call from the Department of Children’s Affairs. The call notified her that her son’s body had been found inside a bag. Lyapustina states she visited her son in May 2023 with Veronika Naumova, the guardian who had temporary custody of Lyapustina’s daughter. Preliminary findings indicate the death occurred around December 2022. The family says there was no prior information given about any harm to the child before the authorities arrived. The case has amplified concerns about the child’s welfare and the safeguarding of siblings in guardianship.

Lyapustina emphasizes her deep love for her children while acknowledging she feels unable to provide full-time care. She expressed concern that her daughter and son might fare better with their other parent or relatives, underscoring ongoing worry for the family’s wellbeing.

On June 26, 2023, Veronika Naumova, who was supervising the boy, reported his disappearance. She claimed the child had left the apartment and did not return. Naumova described the child as having a history of schizophrenia and suggested he had left the home with the help of an imaginary friend, further complicating the timeline of events in the guardianship arrangement.

From June 26 to June 29, more than a thousand residents participated in searches across Yekaterinburg. By June 29, detectives from the forensic investigation department located the child’s body inside a large bag at a garage complex in the Chkalovsky district. Experts indicated the death likely occurred several months prior. Naumova reportedly attributed the death to an accident during an interrogation, and she allegedly feared losing custody of her remaining children, prompting her to conceal the body.

Reports from former students of Veronika Naumova allege abusive behavior, including claims that the six-year-old was forced to eat feces. Authorities continue to corroborate and investigate all aspects of the case as they seek to establish a clear sequence of events and responsibility.
