Russian Weekend Part-Time Work and Earnings on January Holidays

A recent study conducted by Rabota.ru and Podrabotka, with results reviewed by socialbites.ca, reveals that about one in five Russians worked part-time during a January weekend. This snapshot helps explain how people supplement income during holiday periods and what kinds of activities are most common for flexible or weekend labor.

The most popular side job identified was driving, accounting for 12 percent of part-time work. The next most common roles were general labor tasks at 8 percent and order picking at 3 percent. In addition, 3 percent of respondents reported working part-time as couriers. Another 1 percent indicated work as animators and promoters. These figures illustrate a clear preference for practical, hands-on roles that can be integrated into a weekend schedule without long-term commitments.

Among respondents who marked Other, a sizable 72 percent indicated they were part-time workers in positions such as security guards, secretaries, managers, or designers during the January weekend. This highlights a broad spread of industries where weekend or supplemental labor is in demand, from service-oriented security roles to creative and administrative positions that accommodate flexible hours.

When it comes to earnings during the New Year holidays, more than half of those surveyed reported incomes below 10 thousand rubles from their part-time work. A quarter of respondents earned between 10 and 25 thousand rubles, while 11 percent reported earnings in the 25 to 50 thousand ruble range. A smaller share, 2 percent, earned between 50 and 75 thousand rubles, and 5 percent brought in more than 75 thousand rubles during January. These distributions reflect the typical holiday-season dynamics, where volume and availability of weekend work can influence total take-home pay.

Within Moscow, several industries stood out for offering higher earning potential, with some roles surpassing the 100 thousand ruble mark. This underscores regional differences in demand and compensation, particularly in a large metropolitan market where flexible, weekend-driven labor can command premium rates in certain sectors.
