In the Rostov region, officials reported that deteriorating weather conditions prompted the rapid establishment of two temporary accommodation points in Zverevo to assist stranded drivers and travelers. The measure aims to provide shelter, hot beverages, and rest options for those caught in the adverse weather while authorities coordinate clearances and safe rerouting when needed. The situation reflects ongoing efforts to maintain roadway safety and support motorists during severe winter weather.
Concurrent with the accommodation points, traffic restrictions were implemented on the M-4 Don highway between the 930th and 1000th kilometer marks, spanning the area from Kamensk-Shakhtinsk to Shakhty. These restrictions are part of a broader response to the hazardous conditions, helping to prevent accidents and ensure that emergency services can operate effectively along this major corridor during the storm.
Earlier reports noted that passage for trucks and buses along a particular stretch of the M-4 Don highway in the Rostov region was shut down because of the difficult weather. The affected segment extended from 930 to 1024 kilometers, running from Kamensk-Shakinsky to Shakhty. To ease disruption, authorities arranged a detour route via M-4 at 961 kilometers through Zverevo, Gukovo, Novoshakhtinsk, and returning to the main highway at 1001 kilometers. Heating points for drivers were positioned at the 939th, 983rd, and 994th kilometers to provide relief from the cold.
According to Rostov regional press coverage, the restrictions were driven by heavy snowfall that struck the Rostov area on January 8, accompanied by strong winds. The combination of whiteout conditions and gusty wind increased the risk of multi-vehicle crashes and created hazardous driving scenes across several roads in the region, prompting authorities to implement controls and ensure quicker emergency response where needed.
In a separate incident within Stavropol, a minibus was involved in an accident with a truck, underscoring the ongoing dangers posed by winter weather in neighboring districts and the shared need for cautious driving and timely safety measures on regional roadways.
