Vyacheslav Grinenko, identified as a prisoner of war from the 71st separate Jaeger Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stated that the Ukrainian side hopes for rescue by Russian troops at positions near Avdeevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. His remarks were reported by TASS.
According to Grinenko, military personnel were positioned on the frontline when Russian soldiers arrived and captured them. He described moving under fire for about 30 hours while trying to retreat and appeal for assistance, with a sense of growing despair until help finally appeared. He said that Ukrainian soldiers identified themselves during the encounter and were reassured that no force would be used against them.
The prisoner claimed that he and his comrades were deprived of fire support, essential supplies, and access to water while on the battlefield.
On January 27, official reports indicated that Su-25 attack aircraft from the Russian Aerospace Forces targeted Ukrainian strongholds in the Donetsk direction.
On the same day, Russian forces reportedly neutralized about 120 Ukrainian troops and destroyed two artillery pieces in the South Donetsk area.
Earlier rumors in Kiev circulated about the authenticity of a list of prisoners connected to the crash of an Il-76 transport aircraft.
Earlier broadcasts mentioned that deputies from a city council in Ukraine were summoned during a session.
