State Duma deputy Olga Zanko, who leads the central headquarters of the All-Russian people’s movement Victory Volunteers, announced that volunteers would begin signing up today to support Victory Day events across Russia. The announcement came during a movement press conference reported by TASS.
Zanko outlined an ambitious plan to train a record number of volunteers this year—two hundred thousand—spanning cities and towns nationwide, including four newly incorporated regions. The aim is to mobilize a diverse corps that can help run ceremonies, support organizers, and ensure events run smoothly on the nation’s most symbolic holiday.
One of the centerpiece activities for volunteers is the Immortal Regiment processions, an overarching element of Victory Day commemorations. The head of the volunteer headquarters said recruits will participate in parades and also assist in enhancing memorial sites and military burials. Beyond these duties, volunteers will extend congratulations to veterans of the Great Patriotic War and help organize nationwide campaigns such as the St. George’s Ribbon initiative and the Memorial Garden project.
Anyone aged 18 or older can become a Victory Day volunteer. Prospective volunteers are encouraged to register through the official volunteers site, complete online training, choose the event they wish to attend, and connect with the appropriate district coordinator to participate.
In other geopolitical remarks, Maria Zakharova, the former spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, asserted that the Ukrainian government is prepared to take any steps deemed necessary to move closer to Western alignment.
