The abductors reportedly loaded the birds into containers. The incident occurred on the property of a private residence, where the thieves moved the chicks from one side of the fence to the other through a single opening. The farm operates a poultry production program, and six thousand newly hatched chicks had recently been put up for sale. A buyer was lined up, but the deal did not go through, and soon after the birds vanished. The poultry owner immediately contacted the local police, providing details of the failed buyer in hopes of uncovering who might be behind the theft. In a separate note, authorities recall a prior arrest involving meat theft at a Petersburger shop, where the culprit menaced metal cutters dealers as part of that offense.
