Vodafone Spain H1 2024 Financial Overview: Revenue Dip and EBITDA Change

Vodafone Spain experienced a 1.8 percent decline in income during the first half of the fiscal year, covering the months from April to September, with a value of 1.929 million euros. The operator noted that the decrease stemmed mainly from softer service billing, reflecting intensified competition and pricing pressures in the market. The result is a reminder of how shifts in consumer demand and competitive dynamics can squeeze top-line growth even as the business continues to invest in network and digital capabilities to attract and retain customers.

In this context, Vodafone service revenues reached 1,731 million euros, down 2.8 percent. The fall is attributed to strong competition in the low-cost consumer segment, a smaller overall customer base, and continued reductions in mobile termination rates. These factors were partly offset by the expansion of digital services for business customers and by updates to price plans that align with consumer price indices, helping to cushion the impact of competitive pressures.

Additionally, the company reported a gross operating profit, or EBITDA, of 394 million euros for the first half of the financial year, which represented an 11.46 percent decrease from the 445 million euros recorded in the same period the previous year. The EBITDA figures reflect a mix of factors, including a 4.1 percentage point impact from exceptional tax benefits and higher energy costs compared with the prior year. These declines were partially offset by savings in commercial activities and interconnection costs, helping to limit the overall erosion. The EBITDA margin also contracted by 2.3 percentage points, underscoring the ongoing tension between revenue pressures and cost management in a highly competitive market.
