At School No. 4 in Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan, three students were wounded after a ninth-grade pupil attacked them with a kitchen ax and a knife. Local agencies reported the incident as a serious act of violence within an educational setting.

The event occurred around 8:00 a.m. local time on the morning of February 13. The head of the education department, Nazira Zhashibekova, stated that the assailant injured two tenth graders and one ninth grader. Two students with head and arm stab wounds were transported to the regional hospital for treatment, while the remaining student received medical care at the scene. Officials described the injured students as being in stable condition at the time of reporting.

According to Zhashibekova, bags are not searched at the school entrance, and the ninth-grade student reportedly entered a bathroom where the weaponry was later found. The attacker was apprehended by police officials and placed under investigation as authorities opened a case on suspicion of attempted murder. Preliminary information indicates the minor may be under medical psychiatric care, and a formal review by the district prosecutor’s office will assess actions taken by both the applicant and the school administration as part of the ongoing pre-trial process.

In a separate incident in Khimki, a mother of an 11-year-old student who previously attacked a classmate with a kitchen knife in a school restroom has refused interviews until a financial settlement is reached, reportedly around 15 million rubles. This case has drawn attention to the broader issue of safety and student mental health in educational settings across the region.
