A dispute between a mother and her son has escalated into a violent incident this Sunday in Zaragoza. The young man, who has been identified as AVGB, was involved in an attack with a kitchen knife. The incident occurred at their apartment on 9 Biescas Street in the Torrero district, just before 7:30 p.m., and immediately drew the attention of local emergency services and law enforcement.

The confrontation reportedly began as a heated argument on the second floor, drawing the concern of nearby residents who heard shouting. The cries for help intensified, and the mother described being attacked as she attempted to defend herself. AVGB allegedly stabbed his mother in the leg with the kitchen knife, after which he remained at the scene for a short while before leaving the residence in a hurry.

A passerby assisted the attacker as he moved down the street, and responders were called to the location. Medical teams from 061 and the Aragon police’s Supreme Headquarters for Citizen Security quickly arrived, providing aid and securing the area. The mother received first aid at the scene before being transported to Miguel Servet University Hospital in Zaragoza with a deep leg wound at hip height. She was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit for treatment and observation, according to local reporting from El Periódico de Aragón (Prensa Ibérica group).

Officials report that AVGB was taken into police custody after leaving the apartment and was later transferred to a local police station for routine processing. He is expected to stay in custody as officers from the Homicide Squad investigate the motives behind the attack. Authorities note that the son has a history suggesting drug use and has been receiving treatment for anxiety issues, information provided by local records and ongoing inquiries (Aragon Police).

In related updates, a separate incident from last April in Zaragoza involved a 28-year-old who killed his mother in the San José neighborhood and then took his own life, a case that did not go to trial. This event is part of a pattern of violent family tragedies reported in the area (Aragon Police).

Another domestic homicide case from the previous year in Zaragoza remains under investigation. Héctor López Ferrer is accused of fatally stabbing his father, who survived a brutal assault in the family home located on Calle Reino 46 in the La Almozara district. Authorities indicate the attack occurred while the mother slept; the assailant immobilized the elderly man on a living room sofa and stabbed him with a large knife. The victim died from hemorrhagic shock after sustaining a jugular wound. Investigators found a significant quantity of alcohol in the home, including many whiskey bottles, and the case has prompted discussions about sentencing and review in relation to the perpetrator’s guardianship and care history. The mother involved in that case is seeking a reviewable permanent prison sentence (Aragon Police).
